You know what's disgusting?

The internet. The internet is disgusting. Holy hell.

So, I have an infected wound on the top of my foot. I've been a reckless and sickly thing for most of my life, so this is somewhat normal. It bothers me now that I eat plenty and I'm not homeless, though. I'm not diabetic and I don't have HIV. I don't have any autoimmune disorder that I know of. I'm generally way healthier than most people I know. But my extremities are always cold and never heal well. Anyway I googled "persistent infection" trying to find something other than bleach that actually works, and it was like rubbernecking a car accident. There's a reason I'm not a dermatologist.

Also last week I googled "wtf japan" after giggling at the title of one of Malachite's "what are you listening to" songs. The results were just vortexy-interesting enough that I then googled "weird porn" just to see what would happen. That was a huge turnoff. Urg. People fap to some lovely things but also some really unpleasant things. So then I don't remember what search term I tried next but did you know that girl vagina looks like the inside of a fish if you open it wide enough? I knew it wasn't a smooth tube of uniform shape and texture, but it has shape that looks like ribs or gills, and it can get huge. I'm not sure how I never knew that. Or how anyone finds such a grotesquely medical view arousing (apologies to anyone who does).

And wow. Stay off the internet, guys. It's a bad place.

LOL.

I did not know about the fish thing. Never seen it from that perspective and never plan to. I've always found the inside feel of vaginas rather disturbing, yet I can't stay away.

Felix, I always call that "useless internet searching" and it's one of my favourite activities! Speaking of disgusting, google "upper decker." Don't get mad at me, it's not my internet! Hugs, Devlyn

What about your foot? Has the infection gone down?

Beverley
Nah but it's not a serious thing. Just creeps me out to see it linger.

Slow healing wounds can be a sign of a compromised immune symptom.

Yeah that's why it creeps me out. It's been an occasional problem since I was a teenager but I thought it was just because I was skinny then and under a lot of stress. I test negative for diabetes and HIV, and I have some "floppy" heart valves that create some murmur but I was told that shouldn't cause any problems. I don't want to become a hypochondriac so I just disinfect and debride the wounds and accept the scars.

How did it get injured in the first place? I am wondering if there is something trapped in the wound that will not let it heal? Have you not seen a doctor?

Beverley
I really don't go to doctors for stuff like this. It was a small carpetburn, so yes I'm sure something icky got rubbed in. But nothing is trapped in it and I know I'm prone to this so I cleaned and disinfected it pretty quick. It is the foot that had to be kinda rebuilt with screws and plates so maybe it just has inadequate blood flow or nerve connections or something. I have milder but similar problems with my fingers, though.

Really Beverly I'm just complainy about it because having it happen at 30 feels a little more threatening than having it happen at 15. I'm not invincible anymore and I really want to stay strong and healthy for lots more years.

I'll try the massage. That's the kind of common sense thing I just don't tend to think of.

My kid is not home and overeating sounds really great right about now. I have the house all warm and I'm playing the BBC as loud as I feel like, and I think a giant bowl of food and some sleep would be excellent. Oh yay. :)

Do it a couple of times a day for a fortnight and see if it helps.

I tried to limit myself last night, taking only small portions but I took too many of them. What are you listening to on the BBC? Why are you listening to the BBC? Are there no decent broadcasters in Oregon?

Beverley
I listen to the BBC because it would make too much sense to turn it off and play music instead.  God it's bleak stuff, and stilted and silly. Actually it's just what the local NPR affiliate plays at night. BBC news cycling over and over. I have bad fear sometimes and it helps to have a reminder that the world exists outside my haunted head.
