I know this isn't the right place for this but there is no "right place"

I let a neighbor in my house to "borrow the computer" earlier today, then i went to Wal-Mart only to find my wallet empty.

I KNOW he got it but it's "my word against his" when I take it to court and I might as well resign myself to getting no satisfaction.

There was $76 in there and it was all the money i have and i don't have any other scheduled income coming.

I have hundreds of dollars worth of utility bills that start coming due again in mid-March and this wouldn't have paid them but it would have bought toilet tissue and detergent and gas for a few more weeks anyway.

Just when I think things can't get any worse....

I feel like this is the last straw.

the icing on the cake? Within walking distance of my house is a convenience store that's been advertising for workers since the first of the year, they have had my application all along, and yet they won't even interview me. I went back a couple of weeks ago to try to plead for attention and the manager gives me a cold-shoulder expression and says "your application is on file" and that's it.

they have hired at least six people who either failed the drug test or quit after one day - and yet I sit here with my world ending and can't get a chance.

Does that store have a head office?   You could contact them and tell them that you feel that you are being purposely ignored by the manager?   Regarding the missing money you should go to your local police station and tell them about it, getting something written down that can be later submitted in a court will make you feel better, and who knows maybe this man has previous complaints about him on record and your statement may well prompt the police to actively look into it?  If this is not the case then perhaps in future your filed statement can lend credence to another's complaint regarding him.

It is very tempting, but try very hard to be even more trusting with people after this incident.   If you close down and start thinking that nobody can be trusted you will start seeing evidence for this everywhere, for what we concentrate upon we get more of in our lives.   In other words 'Energy flows where attention goes'.

I've been to the police. They told me i could go to the city office and swear out a complaint and take him to court, but the odds were against getting a judgement other than "your word against his"

I intend to contact the home office for the store, actually, that was just on my mind this week.

it won't help me but i can kick the hornet's nest anyway for the sake of karma.

money is a magnet so do not leave money around with guys but in the office me and other wome just leave our bags open with wallets clearly in view and no worries about theft.
painful lesson.
