I seem to have a thing for suit jackets, I could have a whole wardrobe full of them.

but black is definitely not good on me as it makes me look dead, lol. oh well, i will just have to wear other colours for t'shirts etc as i recently couldn't resist a black jacket i saw for £6 in a charity shop.

anyone else here share my love of suit jackets?

*raises hand* Me! Like you, I could have a closet full and never get bored with suit jackets. They're kind of perfect for every occasion from casual to formal; the only thing that might get a strange look is trying to turn it into beach-wear. ;P

Black doesn't look bad on me; I have trouble wearing pastels and white though - it washes out my complexion too easily.

Hehehe! Yeah, i'm the opposite. I used to have a lot of pastel suit jackets and off-white ones. got rid of them, because i didn't like the cut of those jackets any more and they were getting old and stained. Need to replace them now, but it's hard to find suit jackets that look nice and not cheap that aren't black (and are, actually, cheap, lmao)  :'(.

i'm going to look for a grey suit jacket soon, grey suits me much better and hopefully won't be too hard to find.  ;D

i really should look for t-shirts instead i feel though, as i have like, 3 t-shirts.

Yeah, I know about the cost and fit. All the great jackets cost money, but I'm slowly filling my closet. My favorite jacket right now is charcoal tweed thing; the cuff-links have to be the best part: two peace signs.

Gray is a great choice; it's basic neutral, so when you really start going for the t-shirts, it won't clash. And my t-shirts can get pretty crazy, lol.

I luuuurve suit jackets

it's so freakin hard to find ones that don't make me look ridiculous though

generally speaking, if it fits on the shoulders it won't fit on the hips....and vice versa

*shakes fist at hips*

I have a pinstripe one I used to wear all the time but I think I might have shrunk it D= either that or my arms got spontaneously longer, which doesn't seem likely

I've been dreaming about a  suit for years but never got around to getting one

I'm quite a fan of suit jackets. Men's-cut ones don't look very good on me though, and women's make me look curvy. Black is a really harsh color; I prefer charcoal grey to black in most, if not all, situations. :D

Funny how I was just thinking about this myself. All my suits, ties, sports jackets and men's office casual stuff went to goodwill when I retired. My pet peeve has always been the fact that men's clothing styles and color hasn't changed much in the last hundred years, it's all boring, colorless, unimaginative, dull in bland blues, browns, tans, grey and black, it's ugly. And whoever thought of neck ties? More than likely someone whose close relative had recently been hanged or garroted. On the other hand women's clothing is the exact opposite, colorful and exciting with lots of variations.

My spouse insisted that I have at least one sports jacket that I could wear with an open collar shirt, pressed and starched designer jeans and white tennies while we are out for dinner at some nice place where my usual mode of dress would be unacceptable. So off we went to Jos. A. Banks after looking through the racks at several department stores. The entire day was a bummer! It was kind of like mom making me eat my broccoli when I was a kid...[YUCK] Anyway, I got a light blue sport jacket, it's at the tailor for modifications so that the lapels don't stand up too much, because like the man said, "you have these odd bumps on your chest, but don't worry it can be fixed!"  ::)

I too love the suit look.

I guess they're consistent style-wise... I wouldn't say boring. More like "classic." It wasn't broke, so they didn't try to fix it. :D

I just can't help being jealous when all the handsome gents on TV come strutting out in their dark Italian numbers. Barney Stinson, anyone?

Unfortunately, I have to satisfy my suit-jacket needs from Goodwill-type institutions, as my parents are still in that stage of "you can wear whatever you want, but we're not paying for it unless we like it."

Whatever blows your hair back I guess! Suppose that because I was stuck in that mode all my working life that I see them as more of being part of a work uniform imposed on me by the business world and the expectations of what I will have to dress like to be a man. I'm really quite resistant to being shoved into anyone else's concept of what I have to look like, dress like, eat like or be like to be me. That's probably got a lot to do with the bottom line in my GID issues to start with.
I don't know how old you are Charlie, but you can get a pretty decent suit jacket or sport jacket at JC Penny fairly inexpensively if you want one bad enough. I gave Goodwill an expensive three piece Yves St Laurent suit that I only wore three times. Everyone said I looked good in it, but I hated wearing suits. Sometimes we do stuff just to please others and it's just a huge pain-in-the-a**!

I've never liked wearing suits either, no matter how many times people I knew told me I looked good in them just to convince me not to give up on the whole thing.  Thankfully I'm in the computer game industry, where the dress code is "wear clothes; don't smell."

FYI - Most suit jackets can be let out at the hips or waist to accommodate different body types, the taylor told me that they come off the rack as one cut fits all, but there are a variety of body shapes that keep taylors busy doing modifications.

Finding a suit that fits is fine. Finding one that makes you look good in it, is a different thing.
Finding a tailor that knows how to make you look good is great.
If you can't afford to have a suit tailor fitted, look around for someone who sews a lot and look at how you would like the suit to look.
It's not that hard to get it closer to what you want.
It takes practice, for sure, and when I first started changing my male clothes into a better fitting cut, it was well worth the effort.
It's not just suits that need to be tailored. Dept store clothes are the same as suits, they don't fit a lot of people.
I've been changing the cut of my clothes for most of my life.
It's how the cut fits you is what makes all the difference between it fitting and making you look great in it.
I see people wearing expensive clothes that don't fit and I can't help but think if they only knew how close they are to looking great.
I've seen people wearing some of the cheapest and even worn out clothes and admire how well they look because the cut fit's them.
Find a good fit and minor alterations will make you look good no matter what you're wearing.
Finding that androgynous look is just a matter of how your clothes are fitted to your shape.
It's a subliminal thing.
