At least 10 people have asked me if I'm a woman that's into women only, after telling them that I'm a transsexual woman. My response was, of course, no that's called being a lesbian.

On the plus side, after explaining to them what the word transsexual really means, they were still friendly and we continued our conversation.

So although clueless, people are more accepting nowadays.

Rather be in that "land" wherever you are (sounds like a small-town of friendly people like Harvest Moon the RPG) , then be in a land were people do know, reject you, and abuse you for who you are. Explaining is easy, daily humiliation, name-calling, possible killed for who you are is awful. .

You can reject me, you can not support me, but DON'T hurt me. That's how I am with people I don't support with, let them be who they are, but don't bother them. Like Satanists (the LeVey Anton type), they are following a religion I don't support, but I research them, and know for a fact they aren't hurting anyone (except the ones that hurt them), and they SUPPORT T-people (as a general thing), and they don't harm little kittens... I would even compare their religion to TG, since there's a lot of misunderstanding.

At least for me, I know it would be social suicide FOR the rest of my life. I would have to move to CA where they are more tolerant, and begin my life anew. I would be afraid to tell people that I am a transsexual if I pass well, but to those who accept me for who I am would be great.

Eventually I want to be open about my transsexualism enough that I don't care.  But that may or may not happen in my lifetime.

I love my family, but they are the main reason why I haven't transition. Not their fault, but it's my fault for letting them become that.

This is one of the main reasons I don't use the term "transsexual" about myself. As another poster stated in another thread, given the common terms heterosexual, homosexual etc, transsexual brings -sex- into the discussion. We know sexual preference of trans people is all over the map.

As far as Wild Flowers post, I've experienced none of what they posted here. People know I am trans BUT also accept that I am a woman. I've seen no "daily humiliation, name-calling, possible killed for who you are" and I have traveled around quite a bit in the last few years and where I live is far from some sort of "queer bubble".

Yes, I use transgender or more likely "transgendered". I've never had anyone ask me to explain that transgender means when I have used it. I don't consider myself "A transgender" but that I am transgendered. Calling oneself a -transsexual- or a -transgender- (noun) is like saying it's the main descriptor of themselves. For some people it may be, it's not anymore for me.

I guess everyone has a different experience, I just didn't really feel or see this negativity. I wonder for some people if the "daily humiliation" is them feeling humiliated when they are clocked? I'm not convinced I pass really well, maybe I do?
