Help with Applying Makeup?

Hello sisters,

I have not posted or even visited here for several months because I had a health issue which led me into a several month bout with depression. I'm now over that depression, though not the health issue.

I bring this up not to seek counseling or sympathy but because it is the reason for my question.

The health issue is that some nerves in my right eye have been damaged because the blood flow was blocked. The effect of this is permanent damage to the vision in that eye. Due to this problem, I had suspended my crossdressing, because it has been difficult to apply my own makeup. When the issue first started, I would still dress, sometimes just in stockings and heels to full on minus the makeup. After a while the depression kicked in because I believed that I would never be able to completely crossdress again if I couldn't do my own makeup. So I stopped dressing all together, as the enjoyment vanished. Well, as I'm sure all of you know, once a crossdresser always a crossdresser, so after about 6 weeks of not dressing(and no longer suffering depression) I slowly started to wear my frilly clothes again. LOVING IT.

While I am at peace with the limitations of my eye, I figured why not come here and ask you lovelies if you know of any ways a "One Eyed" crossdresser can apply her own makeup? I should clarify I can do most of my own makeup, the real problem is applying eye makeup to my left eye, which is my good eye, but closed or slightly closed when applying eyeshadow to it, which leaves me virtually blind.

I appreciate any advice or tips you want to share.

Slow and a little at a time.  I also have limited sight in my right eye because of a stroke several years ago.

Makeup can be done by feel and using your inner sight.  And of course take your time.

Wow, I am so sorry to hear that about your eye, but happy for you that you are back to dressing again and its making you feel better.

I would say practice keeping a steady hand and try to find a good center of balance. Continue to practice with the general blindness and makeup appliance and you should be good. It will just take some time getting used to the handycap and needing to use feel above vision. You will be fine in due time though ^^.

By the way you look great in your profile picture, so it already looks to me like you have a good application skills, just remember your old strokes and keep a steady hand and you should be dead on!

Sorry to hear about your eye problem and depression. Glad you're pulling out of it.(((Hugs)))
I had optic neuritis  once and the doc recommended adding additional lights.
A well lit makeup mirror made a big difference putting on makeup for me.

I actually can relate to your problem! I can barely make out my facial features with my right eye (just a genitic birth problem I guess) So when doing eye makeup, and I close my left eye to put makeup on it, my right eye can't really make anything out. Eyeliner is the hardest. I've ended up with lines way up on the middle of my eyelid thinking that I was right on the lash line. You can still do face makeup right? Because that is all I'm doing right now actually. I have an eye infection and can't put any eye makeup on until it goes away (Its been six months now). But even after it goes away, I can always manage to do some one to two toned eye shadow and mascara. Just gotta hope for the best. If you get a routine eyeshadow look down, your hand may memorize the pattern. Like just trial and error. Apply some makeup, open your good eye and see if it looks right. Apply some more, rinse and repeat!
I've kinda given up on eyeliner. I just can't see to put it on, and I'm guessing you can't either then. I think an important part about life is admitting that you do have limitations, and then accepting them. But I wouldn't let something like makeup stop me from being a woman. And for you, I wouldn't let makeup stop you from being yourself either!

Hey one last idea, for laughs. Go to youtube and type in "no mirror makeup challenge." Pretty funny stuff!

Maybe I do it wrong but I don't close my eye when putting on makeup.  I think I tend to focus my vision with the opposite eye so maybe it has the same effect.  I will agree with what has been said.  I think with a lot of trial and error and practice you'll be able to do it eventually.  I remember the first time I tried to do my eyes (with perfect vision).  It was a total mess and I didn't think I would ever be able to make it look good.
