I decided to try the depo shot in the hope that my bleeding would eventually reduce and therefore my discomfort and dysphoria during that TOTM would be reduced also. Started bleeding the day before my first depo shot and now 2 and a half weeks later, I'm still bleeding. Not heavily but it's definitely showing no signs of going away and it's freaking me out that nothing will stop my periods unless I put yet more female hormones in myself  :(

what are your experiences with depo? any of you guys had longer periods after the first shot? if so, did it settle down for you?

I know, according to my leaflet, that it always was a possibilty but I want to know if there is a glimmer of hope for me (in regards to depo reducing periods eventually)

Feels like my body is doing anyhting it can to stop me de-feminizing it

I was on depo provera for a bit over a year, I think. My situation was clouded by pregnancy, childbirth, and lactation, all of which suppress menstruation on their own. Anyway I never had a single period while taking it. The mood swings were hellacious, but that's not your question.

I stopped having periods the minute I started taking depo -- I started in the pill form and then switched to injections.  I did get a light period last month just before my shot.  But I have been on it for 9 months and only one light period -- I think that's pretty good.  I hope to come off it soon as I as my T levels are coming up nicely

Isn't depo pretty much progesterone?  Wouldn't continuing those shots kind of harm your testosterone levels?

I just passed the 4 month mark on T and I think my period is gone. I'm not sure. But hey Robert you only started a couple weeks after me, right? You won't likely bleed for much longer whether you take depo or not.

that's whats making me worry that it's not working for me and I'll have to find another method (ie. one that involves more female hormones) to stop these horrendous periods :( Obviously apart from testosterone but that wouldn't be for years yet, if ever

I don't know whether to try another shot (end of May/early June) and see if it has any effect then. I did notice a reduction in bleeding after i got the first shot but it's the fact that I'm still bleeding  :-\

I'm angry at my body for not even giving me the chance to try and stop the TOTM

I wasn't on Depo, but I had several friends who were, and a lot of them had bleeding through the dose. One friend of mine didn't bleed at all after, so I think the results are varied. I hope it works for you, since I think a lot of guys around here feel the same way about the captian.

There are also certain brands of B/C that you can take and just skip the blank week to prevent the bleeding and I know there were several patients at my pharmacy who did that. Seasonale comes to mind- it is supposed to prevent bleeding and limit it once every three months, but there was one gal who used it without any break at all for well over a year. The only problem with taking BC like that though is that is you have insurance, it causes billing issues. I also am not a doctor, so I don't know about health risks associated with doing that.

While on depo my periods stopped completely, however both times I came off the depo I had a 6 month period - be warned. I also gained 3 stone each time I was on it

My first year of college I tried it with the same hopes as you.

The bleeding stopped altogether for about the whole three months with the first shot; second shot no blood for 2.5-ish months; third shot 2 months& then it was just really irregular until it finally went away with starting T.

I know some people don't have any bleeding while getting the depo, some relatives even of mine.

The nurse who used to administer it said it would vary, to expect irregularity...which sucks for people who just need it to not exist in the first place.
My mentality was some relief was better than none though.
