Name change tomorrow

So my court date is tomorrow for my name change. I'm already a nervous wreck. I pretty much expect it to go like, I walk in and the judge goes, "Petition of name change, Denied. You're a GIRL! Next case!" I'm pre-everything, but I feel like changing my name first is the only way to move forward with transition. Given my looks, and how I already pass 80% of the time or better, there's no way I could fit into society as an acceptable woman. And I don't feel that I should be forced to try to play the role of a woman and be feminine when I've never been feminine before. So I'm afraid that I don't have a chance. From what I've read, it sounds like people can change their name to anything, stupid, made up, hippie names, even numbers, but you need surgery to change the gender of your name??? I hope the judge doesn't shoot me down over that. I've been nervous about it from the start because they gave me the head judge who has a reputation for denying everything that comes his way, when all other name changes go to the regular judges. So they must have decided when I put my petition in that there was no way they were going to let a GIRL take a MAN'S name.  :embarrassed:

Dude, I've heard of people not even having to speak with the judge at their court date, that could be you.

I also have my name change date this week. We're both going to do fine and be back on this forum with a celebratory post! :)

Not getting to speak could also work against my favor, if the judge has it in his head that he doesn't want to give me the name change. I'm afraid I may be brushed off without the chance to plead my case, if the judge already has it in his mind that he would never approve such a name change.

It's not like you're asking to change your name to "Optimus prime" so you'll be fine, GL!

Good point..you shouldn't fret though. Worrying won't do anything but get you feeling worked up about it and this is something to look forward to. Unless there's a damn good reason to deny it, such as it being for fraud, which obviously it isn't, I think it will be fine.

I have contempt of court from 2010, when I was 18 and stupid, so it crossed my mind my judge will also deny but not worrying...like I said, it's something to look forward to and hope for the best as I'm sure this has been something you've wanted for quite some time.

People have changed their names to 'Bubba Bubba Bubba'. You will be fine.

That's my point. People have changed their name to some stupid things. I'm asking for a normal name, but a normal male name.

You'll be fine, dude. I was a minor when I had my name changed from something VERY feminine to a very obviously male name. Hell, I even put "transitioning from female to male" as part of my reason for changing it in the first place - and I live in a conservative area of the US. There was no problem, I didn't even have to go into court to get it changed. They just mailed me my order, signed and ready for use.

If, on the off chance, you do happen to be denied, you can contest that decision. Just keep your documents organized and do your research. But really, the only way I can see the judge denying your application for a name change is if you've got a history of fraud or major criminal charges and are using the name change as a way of escaping debt collectors or something like that.

Just breathe, and keep your mind clear. Don't panic, seriously. You'll be fine dude, okay?

Like the others have said, you will be okay.  If a person can change his last name to "Ochocinco" then I'm sure you can change yours as well.  You're going to knock that name change right out the park!  :)

Well I actually did get my name change approved. I was surprised. Especially since I really crack under pressure and when I was asked why I wanted my name changed, I told the absolute truth and said I'm trans and don't want to be known by a female name. And he actually approved it! But, it will be 4-6 weeks before it's officially recorded and legal, and then I'll get something in the mail saying I can go ahead and get my documents & things changed.

When I got mine changed I had to publish it in the paper. When I went to get the order of publication thing that you give to the Newspaper office the lady at the court house filled it out like I was stupid or something and marked female...Well Ill have you know I wasn't having any of that. I am a male damn it.
Sooooo, I scribbled it out and checked male and told the newspaper people I made a mistake and marked the wrong one. When the order was published it said ********* has requested to change his name to Shaun Eric Birklei. Proudest day of my life.
Well..yeah it was because to get my license it still said female, and i cant really spill white out on it because the background is blue. I thought about hitting the FE with a sharpie and if questioned be like I was writing with a sharpie and didn't realize my license was under the paper.
