It's been a good week for gay rights on Staten Island.

A day after the borough, regarded as the city's most conservative, elected its first openly gay politician, Mayor Michael Bloomberg signed a bill that ensures all same-sex domestic partners receive the same prospective benefits and services the city offers married couples.
