Conservative Fox News host Bill O'Reilly seemed supportive of a transgender woman's right to compete in the Miss Universe competition during his show on Friday. During a segment about Miss Universe's decision to prohibit Jenna Talackova from participating in the pageant because she is trans, O'Reilly asked, "What right does the Miss Universe pageant have to violate this lady's right to be a woman? They are basically saying because you weren't born a woman you don't have a right to be a woman..t doesn't sound right to me." The comments represent a significant evolution for O'Reilly, who in 2010 compared transgender people to Ewoks.

Okay this is insensitive but it made me laugh.

I've always had hope for OReilly, honestly. He's not somebody I'm going to agree with, but he's not so chillingly amoral as some of the other talking heads on tv and radio.

A transgender beauty queen who made international headlines after being disqualified from the Miss Universe Canada pageant has found an unlikely supporter.

As Think Progress is reporting, conservative commentator Bill O'Reilly spoke out in defense of Jenna Talackova on Fox News last week.

Asked O'Reilly: "What right does the Miss Universe pageant have to violate this lady's right to be a woman? They are basically saying because you weren't born a woman you don't have a right to be a woman..[it] doesn't sound right to me."

The "blonde chick" is Emmy-nominated actress and radio personality Janine Turner, who earned her nomination for her starring role in the sitcom, Northern Exposure.

Yeah. We're in a culture that isn't too friendly with these distinctions and subtleties, so everybody tends to get thrown into one camp or the other.
