I've been seriously thinking of getting a sex change for a couple of years now and I want to know, is it worth it? Does it cost a lot of money, how did it well feel (does it feel like your now like complete or something?), and well any feedback would be nice...I know there are several sites that have information but I would rather here from actual people that under went the treatment. So yeah, please inform me,
Thanks, Jay

There's several topics in this forum that would suggest that it definitely is.

Browse around a little bit and click on things that pique your interest.

There was actually a topic posted recently by someone is post-op everything and he has said the nurses even had difficulty telling his "extra limb" from someone who was born with one. Very encouraging stuff right there.

I haven't had it yet but from the experience of a lot of people from Youtube to Transbucket to guys on here and Tumblr and personal sites a lot of them would say it's worth it but then again you may have a few guys who had it that say it wasn't worth it to them so every experience is personal and different.

Does it cost a lot of money?  That depends.  There are some countries that are blessed enough to have it covered by government funding to where everything is almost completely free and then you have other countries where you either have to pay out of pocket or get coverage through a private insurance company so again that just depends on where you are.  Out of pocket wise it can range from $0 all the way up to $150,000 but I think the average is about $30,000 but don't quote me on that.

Physical feeling is varies with the person and what procedure they have gotten etc but as far as feeling complete some guys feel that they are complete.  Some guys will get a metoidioplasty and feel complete as a man while others feel they need a phalloplasty so again it's different for everyone.

In this topic a guy talks about his bottom surgery.  It's something you may want to look at.

Is it worth it?  Only you can answer that question.  For myself, It has never been a question.  I have known I was male since 4 years of age.  Having the surgery, I now am comfortable in my skin.  Being trans or not....having surgery or not....for me....it was never a question....it was just finding a way.  Is it for you?  I say...spend some quality time with yourself.  Question yourself.  Am I male and if so, am i willing to do what it takes to be me?

I don't know if you are talking about medical transition in general or specifically about genital surgery. I have financial constraints and so I'm only on hormones, but that has been a huge relief for me and made a world of difference. Top surgery is an absolute necessity for me, but I'm not sure how or when I'll be able to manage it. I want some other procedures but my genital dysphoria is not as overpowering as how I feel about my chest. Those are probably way out of my reach anyway, unless I get insurance that covers it.

We all have different feelings about and reactions to different kinds of treatment.

There is no such thing as a "sex change."

Are you talking about getting hormones, socially transitioning, presenting as male, top surgery, phallo, meta, scrotoplasty, etc.  There are so many things that could be considered a "sex change" because simply changing your presentation could be considered a change of sex, since you are changing how others will perceive you.

im going to a consultant in the middle of may to see about the whole operations and costs, and if my insurance will cover me or not. The hormones look like a very real possibility of getting me started on soon and i can only hope that it makes me feel more "funcitonable" per say

Good to see you are gathering information. (And thanks to guys posting the links.)

Lower surgery is a really interesting thing to learn about. Yet for most of us, that only comes after at least a few years into transition - social, medical, and often legal. It's rare for guys to get lower surgery, for instance, unless they have been on T. (And for a meta, T really helps the eventual results.) Testosterone brings not only physical changes, but also mental and emotional ones. For me, that "fit" is one of the main benefits.

So the "is it worth it?" question is a very very personal one - and not just around a meta or phallo. What experiences have brought you to this point?  When you imagine yourself a few years down the road, how do you see yourself walking around in the world, being understood and treated by your friends...by strangers?

To me, its worth it, life saving actually. But you need to ask yourself this question and decide if it's the path for you, nobody can do that for you and nobody should,

Transitioning is an extreme life changing decision and if you aren't quite sure start by finding a therapist that deals with transgenders and with his guidance you just might figure more out about yourself.

Depending on where you are from and if your government or insurance covers the surgeries it can be very very expensive to transition, this is something you will have to get familiar with within your region.

I don't feel complete, I will probably never feel completely complete because I will never be a cis male which is my deepest desire, so I have to be realistic of what I can expect from transition. I can go so far to be a hell of a lot more comfortable in life than without the transition. Without the transition I have no desire to live and have in the past tried to just end it all.

With the transition and I am at the early stages my will it live has increased dramatically  hence why I said it was life saving.

You need to do some soul search to figure out what you need to do to be comfortable in life.

It doesn't hurt to take the first step forward which is finding a therapist (that has experience with transgender people) and see how things go from there.
