That's a good question. I think cisgender people still don't understand much about us because we as a community are so diverse and when they do try to cast us in a role the majority of ts cry "stereotype!" and protest.
Looks like a good show, I think a badass trans chic is pretty cool.
This is simply my own theory but I think the reason they do not have a good understanding of us is because we are not so out in the open. We desire to be seen as women and as TG women. The only way people wouldn't scream "stereotype" is if a character was portrayed as a woman and then was later revealed to be trans. We don't want to be generalized as a community of trans people (speaking in generalities).
This is the issue with Ms Canada. She wants to be treated like every other woman in the pageant, not as a trans-woman. If her birth gender wasn't discovered and she competed, we'd never know and thus her goal would have been achieved, not just for her but for many of us that just look to live as women.
Sorry, soapbox got in my way a little bit.
I'm looking forward to the series. I understand it will be airing on DirecTV so I'll have to keep my eyes out for it.
