I work in Hollywood and spend a good chunk of my day combing through headlines. I came across 2 stories today dealing with transgenders.

First is a few stories regarding Jenna Talackova and her battle with the Miss Universe pageant. http://www.eonline.com/news/transgender_beauty_queen_jenna/306211?utm_source=eonline&utm_medium=rssfeeds&utm_campaign=imdb_topstories

The other is that there is going to be a show with a transgender main character being played by Chloe Sevingy. The character seems kind of badass.

I will be crying on the inside when the media tears this apart. Evil media...  :'(

This looks interesting. Why would some people in our community think of this as a negative representation?

That's a good question. I think cisgender people still don't understand much about us because we as a community are so diverse and when they do try to cast us in a role the majority of ts cry "stereotype!" and protest.  ::)

Looks like a good show, I think a badass trans chic is pretty cool.  :D

This is simply my own theory but I think the reason they do not have a good understanding of us is because we are not so out in the open. We desire to be seen as women and as TG women. The only way people wouldn't scream "stereotype" is if a character was portrayed as a woman and then was later revealed to be trans. We don't want to be generalized as a community of trans people (speaking in generalities).

This is the issue with Ms Canada. She wants to be treated like every other woman in the pageant, not as a trans-woman. If her birth gender wasn't discovered and she competed, we'd never know and thus her goal would have been achieved, not just for her but for many of us that just look to live as women.

Sorry, soapbox got in my way a little bit.

I'm looking forward to the series. I understand it will be airing on DirecTV so I'll have to keep my eyes out for it.

Trans Truth

It's sad how the media's been treating Jenna.

It's even sadder that nobody came to her defense about claiming 'being born female', with every newspaper saying that she was 'born a boy' and temporarily disqualified for 'lying'.

Skyanne

The trailer to Hit and Miss looked kinda cool. Did not like the description though.

She 'looks like a bloke', she a woman playing a man dressed as a woman and it's about a 'glock with a c**k'.

lol Yea ! The U.S. Democratic Majority's claim that there is a "war on women" is now official ! If alleged "young boys" can't compete against girls in little league baseball then perhaps they can at least hold their own in the Miss Universe Organization's "femininity" dept instead ?

We Shall See !

( ps: What a nice switch! Sheriff just came to the door looking to arrest my "ex" only partially due own instigation - while assisting in her escape perhaps one day she'll actually learn "mind control games" really don't pay ? )
