Although I suppose I understand gender roles and stereotypes I find it impossible to fit to them. I see what women are meant to be, all the stereotypes that go with them and I (me being biologically female) know for a fact I am definitely not one of them. Then there's male roles and stereotypes. I suppose I can see how they have occurred but what I don't understand is why, when we live as such an amazing and advanced race, do they continue to dictate how we must live our lives?

I'm just as confused as you and I'm sorry I haven't been able to give much input. I identify as third gender and do experience dysphoria.

Also that thing about the twins is really interesting DrillQuip.

Wow that thing about twins is really interesting an reinforces my belief about my dad and I.
Thank you for sharing that documentary. It was good although I wish it included female bodied people.
Ash, you understand more than me. What are the gender roles and stereotypes? How have they occurred. What are women "meant to be?" I had no clue they were meant to be anything but themselves. I'm learning so much about the world I never knew before and I am so confused.

on the brain science frount the are parts of the brain that are different for males and females with trans males having those bits as male and trans females having thouse bits as female
there are also parts of the brain that are one way is you are attracted to males and another way if you are attracted to females one thing that none of these reports mentioned is that most of the brain parts exist twice both left side and right sides of the brain have these parts I'm guessing that people who don't fit the binary have either the left and right being different or have one or both parts somewhere between the "Normal extremes of Male / Female the differences have to do with the density of the neurons in that part of the brain so there is plenty of scope for not normal range between the "Normal"  range also the differance between attracted to males Vs attrated to females is more obvious then the difference between identity markers (trans people being in the same range as their identity)
I don't want to be a man there from Mars
I'd Like to be a woman Venus looks beautiful
I'm enjoying living on Pluto, but it is a bit lonely

They'd probably try to "correct" the brain in a heavy-handed way with drugs or surgery, too.

That is not possible, most of us is our ideas, experience, lived life; the wiring is not us. -imho.

Oh that doesn't stop people from trying to "correct" things. The theory was that electroshock would "fix" the wiring. I have no idea why it's still being used and I don't want to know.
Also, it is possible to purposely rewire things, but I doubt it would work unless one wanted to and was willing to put the time and effort into it.
