A gay Iowa teen has taken his own life after friends and family say that classmates sent him death threats on his Gay-teen-suicide-Iowa.jpegcell phone and made him the subject of a Facebook hate group.

This is a sad story and even more sickening that people would go out of their way to create a hate group online.  That just shows that they are insecure with their own selfs and they want to drag anyone they can down.  I am a firm beliver in what comes around goes around and anyone who partipated in such activities should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.  That's just my take on it.  My thoughts go out to the family.

On a side note this is another reason why I need to use the second amendment.  I have a feeling that I will be needing it in the future.

I understand what it is like to be 14 and teased.

Of course, I was nearly six feet tall and about 180 pounds, and decked more than one teaser.
I developed a reputation of being a freak not to be messed with.

To what purpose is such hate?

A desire to be part of the pack and fit in. People think it makes them look cool in the eyes of their mates. They stop seeing the victim as human, like them, and instead see them as an easy target. Most don't even know why they hate, only that those they look up to do, so they must also.

Pathetic, really.

Rest assured, one way or another it will come back to haunt those who perpetrated this, in later life. Conscience is a powerful thing. Whoever we are, and whatever we do, we can't escape it.

One of the points my psych's picked up was that I found it easier to love than to hate. And I have serious problems in accepting hatred.
I have no understanding why that is, and no I'm not fishing for anything. I just find it unimaginable for people to be so cruel. I realise young people have a herd mentality, and that can be reinforced, typically in army type training. But this wave of hate by internet is quite disturbing. Sadly I'm beginning to think that the more options we give to immature people the more harm they do to themselves and to others. I hate to my dark soul the idea of censorship; but I'm starting to think it has a place.

That person had an equal right to live. It was stolen from him. In my crude eyes that is a form of murder.

You would think that services which allow people to organise such hate campaigns would do more to see such things didn't take place, rather than stand by and allow it to lead to this. Surely it can't be beyond the realms of possibility to do so.

I think people are increasingly think of how the communication industry can become moral. I think there is a role to suggest that fb and the loads of other sites have social responsibility.

At age fourteen, I think the parents have some responsibilities, too, in at least making some sort of effort to see what their kids are doing online.
