Oakland police are investigating the shooting death of a transsexual woman who was killed in her car in the city's downtown area Sunday morning, April 29.

A woman who was with the victim, Brandy Martell, 37, said that she was killed shortly after a man Martell had been talking to learned of her gender identity.

Oakland Police Department spokeswoman Lea Rubio said that at 5:16 a.m. Sunday, police responded to the 400 block of 13th Street, near Franklin Street. Officers located Milton Massey Jr., which police say is Martell's legal name, inside a vehicle, she said. Martell, which someone who knew her said was her legal name, was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators are looking into the motive for the shooting, said Rubio.

Bryana Coleman, 37, who's transgender and lives in Hayward, said that she was in the backseat of Martell's Lexus Sunday morning. Two other people besides her and Martell, who also lived in Hayward, were in the car, she said.

There are some really horrid, predatory people in the world. I hope whoever is responsible gets what they deserve.

May she rest in peace.

She did not derve to be shot ! Yet, this could be another "wake up" call for those who think it is OK to hide your true identity when flirting with a man you do not know.

All kind of people, lawmen, criminals, law-abiding citizens, sane people, crazy people.

It is my right on my state, Virginia.

Guns do not kill people, just like knifes, or baseball bats; people kill people.

Now, as far as the story was reported, the shootig took place some time after 5 AM. My suspicion this happende in the parking lot of a club after a night of parting; I would not be surpires if the guy was drunk and had spent most of the night knoodling with the death, girl; then after living the club, his bodies told him the thruth, and tounted him as a f.. ; he got enrange, and bam

Sad, very sad. Guns+alcohol=impaired judgment

Sometimes criminals.

Sometimes people like you and me. I had a friend that carried a gun pretty much everywhere. He was a total bull dog. Gladly stepped out of his own social safety to defend a trans friend of ours, even though he admits it's something he doesn't understand.

There were lots of bad decisions made, any one of which, if changed, would have resulted in an entirely different result.

For those who don't know, Oakland is a city on the verge of failure.  The government is corrupt, the schools are decrepit, the place is run by gangs, thieves, and the Mexican mob.

Why anyone would go there after dark, who doesn't live there, is beyond me. Apparently, there had been a murder at a Burger King just around the block the day before.

Hindsight is 20-20, but they should have left the area when the club closed at 2:00 a.m. (California law prevents alcohol sales from 2:00 a.m. to 6 a.m.).  Perhaps they didn't have a "designated driver". Who knows why they hung out for 3+ hours.

The is an object lesson for all of us. Don't put yourself in harm's way because the worst can happen.  Sadly, it did here.

OAKLAND —

Friends and family are mourning the death of a 37-year-old transgender woman who was shot to death Sunday while she was parked in a car downtown with three transgender women friends.

Authorities confirmed that Milton Massey Jr., of Hayward, a biological man, was shot and killed about 5:20 a.m. Sunday while sitting in a car at 13th and Franklin streets. Authorities wouldn't discuss further details about the killing, but Tiffany Woods, the victim's former supervisor at the Tri-City Health Center in Fremont, said her large group of friends is devastated by the death of the victim, who identifies as Brandy Martell and had long been living as a woman.

MiaOhMya!

I'm not sure I can fathom the thought process a person must undergo to kill someone for such a reason... or really if such a monster should be considered human at all.

A part of me dies with every one of these murders  :'(   She was a pretty gal and doing well for herself

Rest in peace dear sister, may the assailants be found and brought to trial

That's all I can say for now...

*Crying*

Superficial fanny kissing friends are a dime a dozen, a TRUE FRIEND however is PRICELESS
