Mother Of Transgender Child Fears Amendment One

http://www.witn.com/news/headlines/Mother_Of_Transgender_Child_150411445.html

Alice Walz is a mother of three children: two boys and a girl. Her daughter, however, was born a boy named Brogan. Around age 3, Brogan started saying that he was really a girl. Walz thought it was a phase her child would pass through, but it didn't. Over the years, Walz let her child act like a girl at home, but to everyone else, it was Brogan.

That changed when an assignment in second grade split the class between boys and girls. Brogan refused to work on the boy assignment, Walz said, and announced in front of the class, "Everyone might as well know that I'm really a girl."

Walz says a doctor evaluated Brogan, determined he was transgender and encouraged Walz to let her child live as the person he felt he was on the inside. That's when Brogan chose a new name to live as a girl: Summer.

Walz wants her daughter to be accepted in society, but she worries Amendment One will create a long road of unacceptance. Since Summer's birth certificate says she was born a boy, Walz is concerned she won't be able to marry some day.
