Community Human Services, a nonprofit organization serving Monterey County, has initiated a new program providing priority mental health services for people with HIV/AIDS, at risk of, or impacted by the disease, along with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning (LGBTQ) individuals, couples and their families.

The program, titled C.A.T.S., or Counseling and Therapy Services, is coordinated by Xavier Schmitz, an LGBT-identified therapist.

Services are provided by specially trained therapists at several Community Human Services locations, including Salinas and King City.

Along with one-on-one counseling and therapy, the program offers group sessions and provides training for therapists who work with HIV/AIDS and LGBTQ clients in Monterey County.

Counseling services are free and confidential, in English and Spanish.

Information: Xavier Schmitz, 796-3905.
