:( That's sad. With how fast technology is & all the advance stem cell research, hopefully it shouldn't be long until scientist's can clone & grow an actual penis for a F to M patient. She must of been upset that she couldn't have a real penis & was crying. I never heard of her or him but he should hold strong. Also, with the technology it would be nice to grow female sex organs for a M to F patient.

This made me smile regardless.  :)

Chloë Sevigny to star as transgender hitman in new Sky drama

Hit & Miss to run for six episodes on Sky Atlantic as part of channel's investment in British shows

    Vicky Frost
    guardian.co.uk, Friday 18 May 2012 14.00 EDT

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2012/may/18/chloe-sevigny-new-sky-drama

Sky Atlantic has said it is making a "conscious investment in British drama" ahead of the premiere next week of its first UK-commissioned show, featuring Chloë Sevigny as a transgender hitman.

[...]

Sevigny, who had to wear a prosthetic penis to play Mia, a pre-operative transgender assassin, said while she was impressed with the script – written by Sean Conway from an idea created by Abbott – she was also worried about doing the role justice. "I was wondering why they didn't want to cast a man or a real transgender person and I guess they'd met with a lot of people and it didn't work out. And I was afraid of the pressure from the gay community or the transgender community and how they would feel, and wanting to be respectful," said Sevigny. Producer Nicola Shindler said the team had considered casting a transgender actor in the lead role. "In the end we wanted the best actor," she said.

Chloe Sevigny fears she's 'unattractive' after transsexual role

Last Updated: 2:04 PM, May 17, 2012

Chloe Sevigny is concerned that her latest role might make her "unattractive" to men.

Sevigny stars in the British series "Hit & Miss," coming soon on DirecTV, about an assassin with a secret -- that she is a pre-op transsexual. For the part, which Sevigny calls her "most extreme," she has to wear a prosthetic penis.

[...]

But the experience got even more strange.

Sevigny continued, "Then looking in the mirror... it was weird. I was lonely and I felt really unattractive. I was confused about my desirability -- was I desirable? -- in having put that on, and having men see me with that on."

Sure as heck this woman gets an idea what GID is all about.
And what she mentions/feels ever so reminds me of my own bouts of GID.
It so takes me back... - eish.

In fact I do have empathy. Quite some. Oh yes.

The lucky thing for her? No need for SRS, to take 'it' off.

Someone aught to remind her, to cheer her up some, or? :)

also, does anyone else think it's ridiculous that when an actor/actress acts as the other gender for a role in acting and people consider it a "brave act." i don't think there's ever actually been real transgender people to play the roles of transgender in cinema. people who actually ARE transgender irl, get treated like scum for the most part.

This is actually pretty common for different groups. You very rarely see disabled actors playing disabled characters, for instance.

Going further back, blackface used to be common.

Going further back, men used to portray women the majority of the time. That kind of blows people's minds now but when women were totally devalued it was the only thing that made sense.

I wouldn't say people should NEVER do any of these things (except probably white people in the US portraying other races, but it might would be justified in different countries where there is no one from that background available. same when no white people are available and nonwhite people have to portray white people), but they shouldn't be preferred.

It's hard to tell sometimes whether the cultural depictions lead to people's subjugation or if it's a result but either way culture does matter. Personally if someone thought they could do a 70% good job portraying part of my background that they don't share with me then I would want them to do it because otherwise it might not get portrayed at all.

I think I might have to look at her webpage, assuming she has one, and see if there are any comments to show she has thought about what we experience.
I will report bac if I find anything.

Chloë Sevigny interview for Hit & Miss on Sky Atlantic
Chloë Sevigny has always been drawn to edgy roles, but her latest – as a transsexual assassin in Sky Atlantic's new mini-series, Hit & Miss – is her biggest and strangest yet.

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/tvandradio/9267261/Chloe-Sevigny-interview-for-Hit-and-Miss-on-Sky-Atlantic.html

When Chloë Sevigny's agents called her last year to say they had received a new script for her to consider, they were unusually coy about the details. "They said, 'It's really wild. We just think you should read it,'" Sevigny tells me when we meet in London. "So I did, and I was like, 'This is insane. I have to do it.'"

Weeks later, the 37-year-old American actress was on set in Manchester, quietly weeping and wondering what she'd done, while a make-up artist hovered over her crotch, carefully fitting a prosthetic penis.

[...]

In summary, this may sound preposterously camp and over the top but, thanks to Abbott's delicate script and a typically nuanced performance from Sevigny, the material proves unexpectedly moving. "It's kind of disturbing at times, but very subtle, lyrical and touching," says Sevigny, in a husky East Coast drawl punctuated by a surprisingly loud, honking laugh. "It's a love story between Mia and the son that she discovers she has."

Hit & Miss, Sky Atlantic, review
Chris Harvey reviews Hit & Miss, the new Sky Atlantic drama starring Chloë Sevigny as a pre-op transsexual assassin living in Manchester.

Chloë Sevigny looks good in a hoodie. This was one of the things that became clear early on in the new six-part drama Hit & Miss on Sky Atlantic. The former indie fashion queen has a way of wearing clothes that makes her look good in almost anything. She does not however look like a man, even when – no, especially when – shown naked wearing a prosthetic penis. This was a drawback for the role of Mia, which requires Sevigny to play a transsexual assassin – born male, but identifying as a woman. And just to make things harder for the Golden Globe-winning actress, she was also required to turn in an Irish accent. Strike two, I'm afraid.

The only reason they used the fake penis was to regularly remind viewers that "It's a man, baby."   They don't want people to forget that part.

So, wait, this character doesn't tuck when she's presenting as female? I guess I was confused. I thought that the penis was for when she was presenting as male. I guess the prosthesis could help her stay in character even when she's presenting as female, but it would have to be tucked, wouldn't it? So that the actor knows it's there but the audience doesn't?

i guess so, but apparently it hasn't helped her "man up" any.

According to part of one of the articles, they allow something pertaining to it to show to remind people that she's preop, maybe show a bulge or whatever. Just going by the article.  Otherwise, it serves no purpose.
