The Pros and Cons of Regular Routines

I went through my morning routine out of order today, and as a result I forgot to put on any makeup.

I've had 22 of 24 monthly laser sessions on my face and neck, so at this point "full makeup" for me isn't all that much anymore. I usually only need a little bit to hid the remnants of my mustache and beard. I went through my routine out of order and I was about 10 minutes into my 20 minute walk to work before I realized I hadn't put on any makeup at all. The last few times when I'd done this, I hadn't gotten any farther than the sidewalk outside my apartment, so I could just run back up the stairs and fix my face.

I didn't have time for that today.

Fortunately, I'd just shaved this morning and it was a really close shave. So, I'm hoping that the "shadow" it won't be too obvious.

So, I guess I need to be more "mindful," as the Buddhists would say, and not rely on routines to be sure that I'm put together before I leave the house.

Hum, maybe also getting some older (me) it REALLY helps to have at least some routine.

As soon as I break it, yes, things tend to get hay-wire... and I do not even have to go to work!

Monday, each Monday, electrolysis and having to leave the house at 8:20am after having done my dilating session ~ 1/2 hour, then getting dressed, make-up - the worst WHAT TO WEAR???
What shoes, etc. this alone could take me up to lunch time, without breaking a sweat :)

Still same day going for 1hour and some, for a my daily health walk/jog, then leaving yet again the house a 4:45pm at the latest for Pilates.

Well then a girl needs some sustenance also, so breakfast, lunch and early dinner (at times)... I mean WHO can go to work with such a loaded schedule? Shopping and taking a shower, hair, gosh the list goes on. No idea how I actually manage, including typing posts at Susan's.

Thankfully the rest of the week is somewhat more forgiving and without some routine I'd be all over the place, i.e. in the wrong place at the right time or visa versa :)

Only once I go to bed and are done with my second dilating and a bit of chick-lit (reading) can I call it a day.
Girl-life tough life, eh?

I usually do my obsessing about WHAT TO WEAR the night before I go to bed. Otherwise, I'd never leave home on time in the mornings!

I woke up from a bad dream this morning where I everyone at work was "seeing through me", seeing me as a man.  Because I had gone to work without remembering to do my makeup.  I wonder what the message was in that?

Going to have to read your post again, see if there is something I can take away from this.

A recurring feeling is that there is no order without disorder.  There was a teacher of Buddhism who established a school and he believed in going nuts occasionally, I think, that was my impression.  I find that a little chaos gives meaning and strength to mindfulness or enlightenment.  One has to wrestle through the jungle to truly appreciate a paved path.  I think it's part of being human.  We need to be reminded of what we have and no reminder is more powerful than having what we have taken from us for a while.

That's my girl,
"A stich in time saves nine", in this case ~ 9 hours? :)

I actually do the same - yet there are times my 'notions' change over night and then it can get silly. At least that's what any male would call it, - which ALSO does not include changing out-fits 2 - 3 times a day to fit one's various occasion...

He, he, like makeup?

Makeup becomes more and more the icing on the cake for me these days, like high heel, nail varnish etc.
Though I have not quite graduated to go 'naked' i.e. without mascara.
Now THAT might just push the envelope too much, like not having had some lipstick on - at least once a day!?

I mean some routines are needed after all.
Should I mention going to the loo... :)

Take care,

I like routines as they save time and brain power.

I'm more unhappy if something is left out of the routine as I don't feel "complete" for the day - I guess I'm a bad creature of habit. :D

Yeah, I've had the overnight change-of-mind thing, too. And that REALL messes up my morning routine as I'm then ignoring the clothes I set out the night before. I haven't done 3 outfits in one day, but I could see that coming up at some point here. I would've thought that was silly when I was a guy, too.

Routines definitely can save time and brain power. But, then I think that my brain isn't getting enough exercise.

You don't need a routine for getting ready in the morning.  You need a routine for checking yourself before you leave.  Like a preflight check for an airplane.  Go up and down your body, stopping as you come to each item on the checklist and making sure it's the way it should be.

Works for me :)

Yeah, that's probably a better idea.

I tried to mindfully break my routine this morning, being mindful that I was going to do so. And in the short walk from my apartment's kitchen, through the bathroom where my makeup is and into my bedroom, I got distracted and nearly forgot the makeup again.

So, the routine for leaving is probably a better idea.
