Ayden

So I just relocated to Osaka. I got here on Friday (Thursday in the states) and so far it's great. My partner set up the apartment fairly well, and left the kitchen to me since I am the chef, apparently. I have gotten several looks since I am blonde and blue eyed, and I have had four different girls flirt with me, which is a totally new experience. Granted two of them made me feel awkward since I doubt they were older than 16. I have also successfully used the men's room twice without getting a second look. I actually tried to use the gals room, but I had an older woman walk in, look at me, look back at the sign on the door and then politely tell me that I was in the wrong bathroom. The second time I didn't even make it in the bathroom before a woman in her thirties raised an eyebrow and point to the men's room.

We also had to get my alien card and cell phone, and the people at both places had a difficult time calling me my husbands wife.

So, it's great so far and I have lost the ability to not pass! I could not be happier.

Congratulations Ayden! Osaka hm? Azmaria, one of the members here took her first steps as herself there in Japan. She was nervous as heck. She and I were texting back and forth the whole time. lol. But she's come so far in so little time. I'm really proud of her.

So what are you doing there? business trip?

That is fantastic. I took a Japanese course this semester and we did touch upon Trans issues, sexual orientation, etc. The professor who has only been in the U.S. for about 10 years was so open minded and a truly nice person. It was interesting to see how people reacted to it. We watched a show about an intersexed person.
http://www.mysoju.com/japanese-drama/is/ It's called IS. Here's the link for anyone who is interested. It was pretty cool.
I'm glad things are working out so well for you

for me it was opposite I passed really badly in japan compared to at home (or maybe I just had alot of old men hitting on me cause I also was blonde and blue/gray eyes)

there where a lady in a shop who saw me like:

KONICHIHA!!!(hi) oh (a forregian) HALLO.... uh... chotto(wait a moment)? are you a boy or a girl?

me: me =__= .. im a boy..
her: "HONDONI!!! KAWAIII NEE!! (wow really your so cute), but! your kind of.... you know... Smallru?"
me: "yeah I know im small =_='" (but your smaller than me.. its just because im a forregian I am expected to be much taller)

well cross "race" identification of gender age and in police line ups is very poor so i would suspect you to pass better.

Keaira

I think IS is also a manga. It sounds very familiar. I've never been to Japan but I would so totally and completely love to go there. I would probably go into shock of actually finally being there... Of course it would be interesting seeing if I could pass over there. lol.

I wouldn't call there gender view poor, Just diffrent.
they have strong gender politic but so do we, But some of there masuline vs femenine are very diffrent from our culture.
Men can wear high knee socks, and have slide in there hairs, and girls can read serious action based storys who still considered "girl story"

Keaira: you talking about the manga IS?
I havent read that one.

LOL! I'm honestly sorry that you got mis-gendered (sort of--gender confused?), but that exchange with the shopkeeper sounds delightfully hilarious.

it was not the worst of being misgendered, just alittle embarrasing/akward.. the worst was when you where out in town and had middleage guys hitting on you cause of your forregian look.
a guy from a store asked me if I where virgin and would like to *** in his car.

we got a couple of those perv, funny" enough Japan is pretty Homophobic compared to where I live, so I am sure if I just straight out told him I was a guy they would run away.. but I was just way to chocked of those peoples pervness to responce.. XD

I don't know how i would have responded to that either. Thats crazy, and getting misgendered is always a little awkward especially when guys start hitting on you.

I've never had that happen to me so I wouldn't know.

Great to hear you are accepted as just another foreign bloke.  Sometimes normal and boring is just fantastic.  :)

hehe, I dont mind guys flirting with me if there gay.
But I think I would pass better for going to Japan now than before where I still was new on T and with No top surgery.

It has to do with being unable (or less able, rather) to recognize female/male traits in people of a different race, since they're different from what you'd look for in your own.

Congrats :)

I imagine it'd be fairly easy to pass in Japan if you're younger and androgynous-looking, because of how andro Japanese male fashion is.
Pronouns: shi/hir

We had some technicians from Ichikoh in my area today. Wow are those Japanese techs demanding. I wonder if I pass to them..
