Interview experience

Hey guys, as some of you know I have been trying to get a job for about a month now. It's really difficult for me to do so when my legal name is still my birth name and I have been on T for 8 months.

I applied as a grooming assistant for PETCO online and put my birth name on the application form, and got a call a couple weeks later. They wanted me to interview with them yesterday(they only gave me a couple hours notice). I went to the interview, of course, presenting as male. Wore a blue button down, black v-neck sweater, black pants and loafers. I went in with my resume and waited. All of the other interviewees were female LOLOL. One of the girls working there started seemingly flirting with me while I waited, and once they called my name the lady asked what my name was. I gave her my last name, and spelled it for her and she told me to come in. The guy interviewer asked me what my name was and I said legally it's *insert birth name here* but I go by *insert chosen name here*.

He called me by the correct name the entire interview, asked me a lot of questions, was very friendly, and I felt that it went insanely well. By the end of the interview there were three of them asking me questions, to which the woman manager replied atleast three times "thats a really good answer".

I am nearly completed with my zoology degree, and at least two of them seemed really impressed with that.

They said they would let me know within a couple days because they all had to discuss the applicants together, and the older manager lady gave me a big thumbs up when I left.

So I really do believe that I did well, and it's obvious that I'm transgender unless people are really clueless. I didn't face any sort of criticism, and I was expecting it due to where I live.

Just thought I'd share this for some of you guys going through similar situations. There's hope!

That is so great! Sounds like they really liked you.  Here's hoping that you get the job.  I am very fortunate in that I work for myself.  I am a genealogist and there are times when my clients don't even see me in person.  They send information and then I do the research for them and send them the documents and charts that they want.  Pretty sweet gig even if it doesn't make tons of money.

Your interview sounds a lot like how mine went a couple days ago at Michaels. I tend to expect people to treat me badly as well, since I live in a very conservative area. I have better luck with interviews I've had with Californian companies than here in Arizona. My nickname is Jay though my birthname is clearly female, and yet most of the interviewers I've had recently addressed me as male and I didn't even have to ask. It's great to know that a lot of good companies don't care as long as you're an excellent employee, which is how it should be.

This is honestly so fantastic. It goes to show that times are changing! I TRULY hope you get the job. It sounds like you will. And even if you don't get it, I think the fact that you were able to experience human kindness at its best is still a fantastic thing. BTW, a degree in Zoology sounds awesome!
