No, Moderators can't view members' PM's. However, every PM can be reported to the Administrators in the same way that posts are reported to the Mods. So just to add to Susan's post, it's really not worth the risk of discussing, even in PM, anything that goes against the TOS of the site, such as self-medication.

No the mods can't, I can if there is a major need but that hasn't occurred in the last 16+ years.

I updated the privacy policy on the TOS to make this clearer.

I just wanted to use this occasion to say that for a while now, I haven't seen the "Report to moderator" link anywhere. Either I'm really forgetful and I forgot where to find it, either it was moved somewhere I can't see it, either there was an error -somewhere- and I, with or without the other members, have lost the ability to see the function.

It is called "Report To Moderator" on posts, but "Report to Admin" on PMs.

I can see it in Safari 5.1.7 and Chrome 19.0.1084.52 on OS X (10.7.4)
Blessed Be!

I guess something's wrong with my account, then.

I'm used to it, though. Looks like my account here is cursed.

Have you been known by other names on the forums? Currently your account is set to no report status.

My display name hasn't changed. However, Forum Admin changed my login name from A to The Letter A in an attempt to fix my blog's moderation rights, which failed.
