Hormone tests

I got some blood tests done in the middle of last year to check my hormone levels and other things. I cant remember if I had two appointments with that endo or not.. but I remember her telling me in person that my hormone levels were normal. She couldnt have known the results in just a day, right  So it had to be two appointments?

But anyway I am seeing a new therapist next week and Im hoping (really really hoping) that he will refer me to an endocrinologist straight away I am so impatient and I just want to start T right now, so I was just wondering.. would I have to get my hormone levels checked again or is last years results good enough? And also how long does it take for you to get the results?

I always see you guys say "I had an appointment and I wasnt expecting it but I got to start T to day!!" Does that mean you already had the tests done? Or dont you even need them?

harlee, I know you're in Oz, too, so just to recount my experience with tests...

My GP saw me, sent me to the lab the same day - I got the blood drawn.  The results were back in just a few days - no more than a working week.  Then when I saw him exactly a week later, I got my first prescription.

Not all docs request bloodwork for some reason.  I would imagine that a specialist like an endo would require it, but in my experience and with my local pathologist, the results were back in less than a week.

Not sure where either of you blokes are but I'm in Qld and have a pretty similar story to Kreuzfidel - saw the GP, had bloods, came back a few days to a week later and got the script with my shot a day or so later.. Before all this obviously I had to have seen a psychiatrist who wrote a letter saying I wasn't suffering any other mental disorders and gave me the GID diagnosis... I myself have never seen an endocrinologist.

I understand what you're saying, I too had very little patience but I assure you - it will happen soon enough mate

Depends on where you'd go, I think.
The place I went to they took some blood for baseline tests but they started me off on a pretty common dose. The last year's hormone test probably isn't the best point of reference but where I went to it didn't really matter.

I think it depends on your doctor .... my doc didn't require any pre lab tests to start hormones ... I got them done so I could see where I started from.

I'm pretty sure it has to be within a certain amount of days...

However, the GP that I went to works with trans people(which is why I drive over an hour to see him) and he got my blood work done the same day that he gave me my script, so it's not something I had to have prior to going.

I was told not to eat for five hours before getting my blood drawn. Once it was taken I came back in one week - started T after I was told everything looked normal.
