Too pretty.

Prior to transition, I had, I guess, a "pretty" face. It got me (more than) enough attention from both genders; very effeminate eyes, eyelashes, lips, etc. My body isn't the issue -- I bind perfectly wearing only a sport's bra, and I have slender hips.

I don't manage to pass very often (at all) unless I'm wearing aviators and a hat (and don't talk). I know you guys have heard this sad song sung a million times, but I'm quite concerned that my highly effeminate face is going to screw me over. Plus, I'm mad scrawny.

Guess I'd like some advice from other effeminate FTMs that are able to pass. I don't want to post pictures in the "Do I Pass" thread, because I know that I don't, not yet. But maybe some of you guys'd be willing to offer a few pointers on where I'm going wrong/parts of my face that scream 'girl'?

Cheers.

Before I was able to start HRT, I was in a very similar position to you- including the amount of attention I got from people suddenly vanishing, because I was way too young to look my age as male, but stopped presenting in anyway that would be read as androgynous. I wasn't effeminate per se, but there were parts of me that did not scream male yet. Honestly, for the time being, I don't think there's much you can do, because I think the fat distribution to your face paired with you being scrawny may be what keeps you from passing. You could try to go to the gym and bulk up, but sometimes when your body is controlled by estrogen severe muscle gain can be much harder to accomplish.

I got pretty much the same problem, specially Pre-T but when I got on T it helped.

I think the best way is to know whats make you non-passable, and fokus on it whatever its your hips or voice or whatever.
its hard for me to give advice all exact cause I dont know what your look like, and even if I did it can somethimes be hard to point out excactly what people focus on (which also can depends on where you live and those things)

you say your problem it your face which is pretty much the same as me, so I will give you some advice I have tried beside homones. (cause for sure its more easy to pass with homones than without.)
I think alot of things can be helped with illusion, to hide the more female point and make the more maculine point stand out.

for your face this can be used:

Have a good hairstyle:
there are diffrent hairstyles who can be used to make your face shape apear more in one or another way. and make you seam more/less femenine. its not nessesarry Short hair. actually its not that recomended since short hair can make alot of focus on your face, and make you even less passable even with a really masuline style.

Make up (for men)
also there are make up tips who can be used to look more masuline, (its a diffrent pattarn than how you use make up on females, so if you already have tried make up before just know its not the same) it might not be for you, its really not all guys who like make up, since in steryotype its a no-go for the macho world.

diet:
last thing is exercise or going to some kind of diet where you focusing on your face slimmer.
it might or might not help for your passing.
---

I hope some of the tips are usefull

Testosterone will still make you look more masculine. Besides, a lot of women like feminine looking guys.
If you're scrawny, hit the gym.

Pretty "girls" make pretty guys, man.

You said you've started transitioning I don't know if you mean HRT- but the hormones can and will probably help. And even if your face doesn't your voice will at least.

Aydian ( ALionsFears on YouTube; was also on the MTV it gets better special) started out "pretty" in my opinion- and now he's like one of the best looking and most popular guys on YouTube!

Yep. I've seen it happen many times on YouTube.

I'd actually consider that pretty damn lucky. If you have a very feminine face with an estrogen-dominated endocrine system, you'll be a pretty-boy with a testosterone-dominated endocrine system.

I don't consider it to be lucky to be very femenine looking if your ftm.
sure homones help but its not for sure that it will make you pass, your face is some of the things people jugde you from at the very start.
also Even when you pass, as a guy, it can be a problem to look femenine if your a guy.

I won't deny it can be a problem, but it's a mixed blessing as well. Without a doubt, a lot of people are attracted to guys who are not hyper-hyper-masculine. Having some feminine features can make a guy more attractive to a LOT of people, whether they be gay guys or str8 women (or bi). I happen to be one of those guys who appreciates more twinkish (is that the right word?) types.

Not necessarily.  And even if that were the case, not everyone wants to be a pretty boy.l

Since you were asking for tips, here you go:

you can:
- experiment with haircuts, but make sure your forehead, more precisely your hairline is covered; don't go too short in the back either. side-swept bangs and surfer haircuts will work for some, while others are better advised to keep their bangs no longer than eyebrow-level

- dye your eyebrows a shade darker than your hair (make sure to catch all the tiny hairs above and below your visible brows! this will make your eyebrows look bigger)

- if your upper body is very slim, wear heavy cotton t-shirts rather than fitted tees

- define your jaw line: apply moisturizer all over your face and neck, then use a black eyeliner pencil on your jawline - use very little and spread, so your jawline will look just a little bit darker than the rest of your face.

I am considered "cute/pretty" I would say (I dont really like the words but I use it here)

for a guy I got those femenine lines, and very big eyes..
it gives alot of pre-jugdes for me, I am alittle femenine but people also expect me to be from my look,
I got this very "sweet, innocent, only like cute things" face, and to be honest I am really not always that sweet so its kinda annoying me.

Jasonrx was pretty before T
now he's a hairy hawt bear. (Larv u booboo~)

I was never a pretty girl. When I got boys it was because I was aggressive and interesting. Now I'm kind of at a loss. I look young and kinda twinky, but I'm still much more masculine and coarse than most gay guys I meet. Plus I have no fashion sense and I limp like a damned pirate or something. So idk how to comfort you in your struggle to pass, but I do concur with the others that you may at some point feel pretty lucky for the effeminate stuff that gets in the way now.

I felt the same as you OP, and even though I am not on hormones, stopping wearing make up , changing my clothes and cutting my hair in a more male pattern has defnitely changed how I look drastically and takes away from my more feminine features a lil...also after seeing the before and after thread under the Just For Us ftm section, I know that Testosterone will go a loooong way in making my features look more masculine...I would definitely suggest checking it out , and for guys that havent posted on there, they should to help inspire future guys on here :)
