This is pretty cool!!

Looking thru a welding helmet you can see a little black dot on the sun, it is Venus as it moves across between earth and Sun...wont be seen for another 130 years or so

My friend in Missouri just sent me these shots he took!

first one taken with a welding lens in front of the camera, second was the image projecting back thru a telescope onto a sheet of paper, you can see Venus as the round disc, and also some of the "sunspots"

It is rather interesting and I've been watching the news about it    I love astronomy related stuff

It was sunny in the Chicago area, and the community college I attend had a viewing. My sister, dad, and I viewed it through a bunch of different telescopes with different filters, and we could also see sunspots and solar flares. Very cool. My dad took pictures; I'll have him send them to me so I can post them up.

Jaime, I am at 2000 ft at my place on the western slope of the Sierra but it starts going up real fast from here, Lake Tahoe is at 6500 ft and is one of the largest "alpine" lakes there is!

I am amazed at the size difference of the sun and our planets!  I recently saw a comparison of our sun against other giant similar stars and our sun was just a tiny tiny pin point compared to the huge size of these other stars!
