So, I've got a "basic" voice down...  It sounds female... (my friends can't even tell it's me, which I guess is a good thing.)

But I have very little "range".  I'm sure this will come in time, but having such a dynamic speaking voice as a male, it's tough on me mentally to have such limited range as a female.

How long did it take before you really started to get your dynamic range down, still sounding female?  I've only been doing it a short time, and made huge strides (I do work with a voice therapist), but this part scares me a little....

Any thoughts?

It does come, but with practice. I was surprised by how it was even possible to have a female voice. I practiced every day, in fact, I use my female voice so much now that it is more difficult to use my male voice.

Range and volume just come from using your voice. The muscles get trained and the brain remembers. As for time:

First 1-2 months was getting the tone
3-6 was learning to get to that vocal range
7-9 months was when volume and range became way more natural. It was about the 6 month mark when my voice took on the sing-song pattern and my pitch when speaking moved up and down with inflections.

It was also at the 6 month mark when I could use my female voice on Skype or Vent and not get clocked. I have a number of gaming friends and it has been the best thing in the world because I get to be the girl I want to be and they accept me as a girl because of my voice.

Hope that kind of answered your question.

BTW, my voice coach was Kathe Perez and she was worth every penny.

BBTW, I really like your picture :)

My voice has always sounded female (apparently). But it has gotten softer in the last several months so now I get called ma'am every time I answer the phone. I have no clue how that happened. But right now my range has really narrowed thanks to my cough. :(

One thing that might help is spending time with other women. Kind of like a foreign accent rubbing off on you. There are 3 other women in my household so I think they are rubbing off on me. lol. But definitely practice practice practice!

I'm working with Kathe.  She's great!

And thanks, I appreciate that!

Yeah, my best friend moved in with me as she is going for her PhD, so I'm renting her a room.... so I'm around a girl all the time.  I do need to practice more.  I practice daily, but probably need to just speak every chance I get.  And I hope you feel better!

You know already that it will come in time... don't worry too much! :) It takes patience but in a few months it will be fine~
I understand how it feels when your mind wants your voice to go up and down but it doesn't quite do it.
Just keep talking and eventually it will do it!

PS I speak low, and an advantage to this is I can vary the pitch more than if I spoke higher! :P

Yes, just using it as much as possible will be of a great help. Also, for me at least, singing and imitating movie/etc. lines helped a lot without putting much more thought into it. But make sure you don't overdo it and get a sore throat.
