Yesterday, I took the plunge and decided to get my legs lasered, including a Brazilian. I went to a place using a Cynosure Elite laser unit, which uses a laser and an air-conditioning unit that blows cold air onto the area being lasered at the same time. This unit is a ND:Yag and Alexandrite laser unit.

I've had great success with this unit on my underarms. After 3 sessions and 1.5 years after being treated, I had around a 80% reduction in underarm hair. As for facial hair, I had a very high reduction rate after 6 sessions, but due to underlying hormonal issues, the facial hair returned. I have light skin and dark black hair as an Asian. So I guess I'm a good candidate for LHR.

The Cost: $450 + $40 in Tip = $490

So when I went in, the technician (who I've known for over two years), rubbed the areas with rubbing alcohol. Then proceeded to use a white eyeliner pencil to draw quadrants on my legs and southern areas for the Brazilian. Cold gel was applied generously and the zapping began. This process took 2 hours. After each large area was completed, cold towels were placed on the treated area.

In comparison to the face, the legs are not as painful. I'd say that sensitive southern areas and the lower legs are the most sensitive along with areas with a higher concentration of hair follicles. Other than that, the pain was completely endurable. In fact, I had a good time watching some Big Bay Theory DVD episodes on the TV they had in the room.

Since I've known the technician for 2 years, she knew the settings that would be appropriate for me. It's best to go with a technician and stick with them if they do a good job. I used the Alexandrite Laser, as this is more effective than the ND: Yag laser on my skin. I specifically asked for it when I went in. Additionally, I tend to tip them around 10% for their hard work.

After the laser session had ended, the areas with more hair follicles were a little bit more puffy. I had taken 2 Advils before the session for inflammation. By the time I had my pants back on, my lower body felt like it was placed in the refrigerator for 2 hours! It's COLD! haha. It's been around 24 hours, my legs are a little bit bumpy. The skin is a tad red around the hair follicles.

Next session for the legs should be in 8 weeks. For the Brazilian, it should be in 4 weeks.

Beauty is painful.
