Mikhail Phillips remembers when he decided to live as a man.

He was a girl at a West Virginia high school, hanging on to the belief that wanting to live as a man was just a temporary longing, when his best friend told him it was time to admit the truth.

"And then I realized right then ... it wasn't a phase," Phillips said. "This is who I am."

The 43-year-old Dublin resident was one of about 2,000 gathered in Dolores Park on Friday afternoon in advance of the ninth annual Trans March, part of the city's Pride weekend. It was his first time participating in the march, which this year has the theme "Trans Generations: Define Your Moment."
