Please help me...

Hiya

I'm Charlie and I'm 22. I've been denying the thought that I ought to be a girl for too long now and it's killing me. For three main reasons; (1) How can I KNOW that this is what I want, (2) Am I too late to really be who I feel I am anyway?? (3) I am still only attracted to girls so this only adds to my confusion.

I think my parents would be pretty chilled about it, but that doesn't stop the embarrasment not to mention what would my siblings think? And what would happen to my relationship with my dad?

I've been through puberty and it was just horrifying so is it too late? I've always had a pretty feminine physique but my face was hit fairly hard.

Please, I just want to hear other peoples thoughts especially people who have been there and done it. Am I the real deal or do I just have everlasting gender confusion or something? I've posted similiar threads in other forums aroudn the webs in hopes of any response. Any thoughts?

As to your questions:

1. Only you know if these feelings are real.  But talking to a gender therapist can help.

2. Hell No.  I was 54 when I began transition.

3. You might just be lesbian.  And that is fine.  So is being Bi or straight.  We don't care about your sexuality.  We care about you.

4. Don't live your life to please others.  If the family loves you they should support you.

5. Your father may be cool with it and he may not.  You only know the answer to that when you tell him.

Thnx for the comforting answers. I think I'll have to mull over your first answer though, kind of scary really. I do live away from my parents now so I could probably get away with see a shrink, but it's still going to seem wierd to me.

They can help you to explore your feelings, and if you decide that you wish to transition, they can help you with letters, finding a doctor for HRT, etc.

Hehe hi Strange that the first people I've told are on the internet:P  If I do go through with this, do I need to talk to my GP first or would I speak to a psych first?

I would discuss it with your GP.  Some GPs will do HRT by implied consent.  Some will want a letter from a mental health professional. a.k.a a gender therapist.
