This video might be helpful to those who have recently come out to explain the basics of what TG is to friends, family and associates.

To dream of the person you would like to be is to waste the person you are.

According to the video, gender identity can change over the course of your life. This isn't true for me and I find that it would aid those who say it is a choice.

Well, it may not apply to you but I would argue that for many, it does, especially considering that many, particularly in the recent past when it was nearly impossible to transition, are/were in denial. My earliest recollections were that I was female but I later denied and repressed these feelings. As well, there are many who ID as androgynous and likely struggle with who they are.

While you may have suppressed it, it didn't change who you were. Denial doesn't change who you are either. A person's acceptance is just that , acceptance of what already is, not changing who they are but admitting it.

I would be interested in other people's views on this.

The trouble with trying to explain it to people with one little video or one little story is that you can't explain all the different experiences and feelings of many different individuals so simply.  People know that most people are different, but sadly, they aren't always so good at realizing that differences abound in every group, not just the majority ones.

What worked for me was simply telling people that I have always been female inside, that I tried to be male but that life is short and I had to live as female in order that I could begin to have a life.

One sentence, everything they really need to know therein.

I knew someone would have a problem with the video. It's hard to find a video supporting trans rights that we as a whole love.

Those who are bi-gender can switch between gender identity fluidly... the video isn't all about transsexuals u know..

And who cares if people think it's a choice. If someone has a problem with how I choose to act they can get out of my life, idc if my ->-bleeped-<- is a choice or not...
To dream of the person you would like to be is to waste the person you are.

One issue I had was their saying that they want to get rid of the word "transphobia." Don't we want people to know what that is? So they can help us fight it?

What they want to get rid of is not the word but the practice.
