Hi switchZoEy,

Be proud for yourself! I am happy for you achieving your first small step that is for you a big step. I meant to mention in your trouble post about make up, that purchasing a feminine item in male mode in a store, all that matters to a sales person is making the sale, it matters not who you are. It isn't their business to know who the item is for. It could be for a family member. I do remember buying a bikini top in a sporting goods store and a young sales lady said, "this isn't for you?" I said, "no," and we both laughed. Don't sweat it, most of my experience has been serious business transaction and it can be fun. Sometimes you have positive comments from female staff, "saying this is so pretty, I didn't know we had that, I think I will get one for myself." All my female purchases have been in male mode.

Enjoy.

It's mostly attitude now, but before i was confident in purchasing femme things found it helpful to have an excuse ready to avoid the deer in the headlights/stumbling words scenario - the excuse was for me, not the cashier. I have every right (as do you) to purchase anything in the store without getting questions from the cashier. Still, i've run across some cashiers that just can't help trying to embarrass me. Young female cashiers or cashiers from another country seem to be the worst at doing that. Guys may give you a look but otherwise don't seem to care.

Some comebacks that i had in mind:

Yes, it's mine (said with a big smile, leave 'em wondering)
It's for my wife (while pointing at my wedding ring, an imaginary wife or girlfriend will do if you don't have a real one)
Do i LOOK like someone that would wear this? (said aggressively)
Is there a problem here?

and so on.

If a cashier is being really obnoxious you can always complain to the management. It's not their place to pass judgement on you.

Eventually you'll find that you are confident enough to just buy whatever you want and damn the torpedoes.

I find something that helps with the application is to smooth your nails off with an abrasive- such as a non-metallic nail file or 400 grit wet&dry, then you get a nice smooth base to apply varnish to.

You can actually get a "polished " look without varnish by then using a 1200/1600 grit and then a cutting compound such as T-cut. ( I've spent way too long around cars)

Here forest green manicure is popular. I am not quite sure whether I can try it.

I prefer very simple manicure. I once tried French manicure, but it was too tricky and I gave up. Nowadays I do not wear nail polish, but I have a blue manicure. My little daughter sometimes plays with it and tries to apply it to my nails.

Some of my toenails become black as I run outdoors regularly. I am thinking applying the blue manicure to my toenails to hide the dark toenails during this summer.

Just sharing!! I bought some lovely purple polish and a real neat blue/purple flip polish and some clear for my hands!  I'm quite pleased!! I went in and just did it. No shame!<3  my toes look lovely...though I did have a liiitle application trouble, they turned out ok!  is there a way to get super smooth application?

Love and kisses <3 Zoey

Very nice.  I still remember the first time I went and got some makeup by myself. :)

I will say that I work a day or two a week at a larger retailer as a cashier and the amount of men coming through by themselves purchasing polish and/or makeup is much larger than I would've expected.  I'm sure *part* of them are honestly purchasing it for their wife/girlfriend/daughter/SO/whatever, but I strongly doubt that all of them are.  It's definitely more common that most people would probably think.

And there is something very nice about looking down at a polished set of toes.  :)

Go get a pedicure and manicure. It feels great.

You are paying them for a service they offer.

Every other woman in there is expecting and not even thinking about that she will  not be treated with respect.

It is quite easy. Truth.

No one really cares except you. Your fear drives you. Forget it.

Head up. chest out, nice smile and be polite.

Next thing you know is that you are in shock and not scared anymore.

Tomorrow is even better.

Hugs

I had my first nail  polish moment last month too. was ready to say "im trans gender and its OK for us to use nail polish" but not even any eye contact from the clerk. I did white crackle on a clear base coat. since i have a lot of white in my nails i thought it would look natural.

My wearing blue manicure about 7 years ago: http://i943.photobucket.com/albums/ad278/barbie_pictures/fashion/blue20050704.jpg

I may try it to conceal my ugly toenails this summer.

Smooth finish is partly a product of smooth nails, if you have ridges, buff them out a bit!

Nice shade of blue. I notice that you dont do your finger nails either. i did it a few times and it seemed to send the message "treat me different" but most folks dont know how to treat you different, become frightened and push you away sometimes nastily. I buff and clear coat my fingers and if anyone thinks it strange i say "i use it for my splitting nails" and if commented on my toes "In yoga, We celebrate or feet" which are both true. :D
