Anderson Cooper: Is It News?

I was with a male friend yesterday when we both first heard that journalist Anderson Cooper had come out as a gay person. My friend and I looked at each other and shrugged: "Who cares," we chimed.

Which led us into a discussion about this whole "coming out" business. No disrespect is meant to Anderson or anyone else who feels the need to disclose their sexual orientation publicly — they each have their reasons. I later read that Anderson did not want people to think he was ashamed of being a gay person, so he decided to come out and show that he is proud to be gay.
