Kansas Statewide Transgender Education Project announced Monday it will be awarding its K-STEP Key award to The University of Kansas at an awards banquet on Aug. 24, according to a news release. The award is in appreciation of KU's support of transgender education.

KU chancellor Bernadette Gray-Little will accept the award on behalf of the university.

"Each year, we recognize an organization or institution that has been instrumental in helping provide education regarding people who are transgender and the issues we face," said K-STEP executive director Stephanie Mott, of Topeka. "Hundreds of students at The University of Kansas have been given the opportunity to have a greater understanding, and each of them takes that understanding into the world."

Event Title: 2nd Annual K-STEP Awards
Location: Maceli's, 1031 New Hampshire, in Lawrence, Kansas
Event Date: August 24, 2012
Time: 6:15 to 8 p.m.

To make reservations or for more information, contact Mott at (785) 215-7436 or stephanieequality@yahoo.com.
