Breast Enhancement Surgery under NHS UK

Hello girls,

  is there anyone could get "boob job" under nhs? I've been referred to a surgeon about a month ago now for breast enhancement surgery. I haven't get any appointment yet.
  my gp said he referred cis-girls for boob job in the past and some of them could get it done under nhs. and those cis girls didn't have smaller breasts than me...

From what I am aware, the NHS will only provide funding for what they deem 'core' procedures - namely hormones, occasionally laser hair removal - rather than 'aesthetic' procedures, which encapsulate FFS, Boob Augmentation and whatnot.

The NHS divides its care into Primary Care Trusts, which look after a certain region and hold the purse strings so to speak; they decide what to allocate their budget on. Some PCTs will allow funding for treatments, and some won't. It just depends on where you stay and how trans-sympathetic the PCT are.

Sorry for the sketchy info - the NHS provides a booklet for transitioning somewhere which might provide more details but this is all I could remember!

Since when has laser been a core procedure for the NHS? I could never get laser through the NHS and my PCT wouldn't ever entertain it! I have to pay privately for my laser just like everyone else and it's very expensive.

In today's U.K economic climate, NHS cutbacks and various hospital closures trying to get a boob job on the NHS is like trying to win the lottery!

But if you live in Scotland you have a better chance of getting some of these things facilitated than you would in England. please let me know if you succeed?

It just depends on where you stay and how trans-friendly the PCTs are, I guess. As Arzu-askim said, its the luck of the draw.

I've been getting my laser done privately too and as you said, its a fair old whack. Still, its worth it in my opinion. I haven't even asked my therapist about getting it on the NHS though - I had such a long waiting time for my first appointment I went and got it done privately and have just stayed at the same place ever since!

Oh, and you're totally right about the whole economic situation having a negative impact on the health service. Its a dire time indeed.

I would go ahead with the expectation you will have to fund a lot of it yourself, I am.
I'm happy I can get hrt and counseling, I'll sort the rest myself.

I was told by gender specialist in Glasgow that if I lived in Glasgow I would easily get laser treatment for face only under NHS but because I live in Edinburgh there is less chance. I still have hope though, NHS Lothian seems very trans friendly to me actually.

and yes living in Scotland is a big plus apart from horrific weather Free NHS meds for everyone, free first degree etc

I agree you have far more chance in Scotland than you ever would in England of having some of these procedures done. I live in England I was turned down by my PCT for funding for almost everything. I have had to pay privately for my treatment so far.

Yeah, beforehand I would have been surprised at how trans-positive Glasgow was compared to other places. The stereotypical view isn't kind but its actually quite forward thinking and tolerant. Probably because most people are more concerned about whether you support Rangers or Celtic than anything else lol 

and - as you pointed out - the weather sucks!
