Coming out to your children

Greetings, all.

I've got a question for those of you who have children. How did you go about telling them? I've got a 14 year old son, and I've recently discovered that I'm transgendered, and I'm pretty serious about going forward with transitioning to my preferred gender. I've already come out to my wife, the prospect of which scared the holy heck out of me, and the only other person in our household is my son. The last thing I want to do is try to hide this from him. Frankly I don't think I could even if I wanted to at this point.

I'd like to know your experiences on what happened when you came out to them, what kind of things were discussed, and what kind of material (if any) you'd used when trying to explain the rather broad spectrum of human sexuality and how you fit into it. My therapist already suggested a local resource, SMYRC, and they've got a few good things there. Are there other sites that I should be looking at?
