I knew this guy from on-line and he was a good guy.  I'm a little bit messed up about this.  Does anyone know what happened? 

Suicide is the logical assumption and that's a shame.

I've actually met the guy before. I had no clue that he passed. Leo's facebook page is covered with sympathy posts. People who know Leo haven't been specific out of respect for what family wanted.

I did a little Googling because I was curious. He was a handsome young man, and since I struggle with *S* issues, I wanted to know what happened.

From the original post, dated 16 July (today):

It is with deep sadness and remorse that we mark the passing of a longtime friend, advocate, and hero to many. Leo or Leotron as he was known on the internet was a wonderful friend to many of us. We are just learning about his passing on July 2nd and we're not sure of the details. If anyone has an update PLEASE let us know. We are suspending posts for bit in memorial.

On Google, I found his tumblr account, which has several posts dated July 2nd (actually, "2 weeks ago", which would be the 2nd), including a pic from "this very queer weekend" Most recently:

I'm off from work until July 9th. Time to grow out my sparse facial hair!

Sounds like a healthy, happy man. Of course, it could be a *S*, but maybe a car accident?

I have a friend in Brooklyn, where Leo lived, who ran in the same circles as he. She confirms that he did in fact commit suicide

God that makes me so sad.     He seemed happy with a good plan for his life.  What could have driven him to such a desperate measure?

I know As for why, well, Depression & Suicide are just freaky that way; my little brother killed himself back in 1995 and it blindsided us all....

I didn't know him, but this sucks. He could have had any number of reasons. Maybe several all at once.

I was on the verge a couple of years ago, and everyone in the trans community thought I had it made because I'd transitioned successfully and had had top surgery. That's not a cure for everything...

This is why we must all be vigilant with regard to our fellow members.

Sometimes there are no overt warning signs a suicide is imminent.

I hope this helps someone heal. I lost a friend 2 years ago to *S*, and I know I would've wanted all the info I could get on my friend.

You'd be surprised at the reasons, its not as easy as it seems, and can be pretty complicated. I do believe a huge part of it is depression though. Its very sad news, I don't know who he was, or his family, but my sympathies anyway
