Hi everyone,

I just posted an introduction in the appropriate forum if you want to read it.

When I started HRT, my doctor in NYC told me he could give me one of two types of medicine, one which typically left you with the ability to achieve an erection, and one which most always did not.  I opted for the former just because I was at the beginning and didn't want to make any rash decisions.  Well, now I need to stop the physical arousals, but have moved to Alabama so can't ask the same doctor and won't see my doctor here for another month.  I thought I'd just do a little research here.  I'm not asking for specific does or where to get it, so I think I'm well on the legal side of the line here.  Has anybody heard of this, and if so, do you simply know the name of it?  And a couple of questions...

  • Once upon a time I heard that no activity for an extended period of time can lead to atrophy which decreases the amount of skin available for surgery.  Is this a worry?
  • If you lose sexual function, do you lose your sex drive?  I like my sex drive and don't want to lose it, but I do want to lose the erections.
  • If you lose the ability, can you gain it back if you don't like it?  (May sound absurd, but I am just really not sure whether you can gain it back or not.)

That's all I can think of for the moment.  Any help at all would be greatly appreciated :)

I started avodart, an antiandrogen, in March of 2006.  It didn't make any changes to my erectile function, or my libido for that matter.

I started a low dose of Spironolactone in September of 2006 - That did affect function (which I was grateful for)  but not completely.  Morning surprises were still uncomfortably frequent.  My libido took a hit but wasn't completely eliminated, once again, that was something I was grateful for.

Now, after almost 9 months and having my spiro dose doubled, I'm troubled no more by those things.

YMMV!
