Melody Maia

Hey everyone,
I know I haven't been around these parts in quite awhile, but I was dealing with recovery and to be honest, depression issues too. I grew quite despondent about my Disney job. I was underemployed in the extreme and my surgery was paid for so it seemed a huge waste of time for such little pay. Thankfully, I found a new job recently that is more fitting and will be moving into a house in a couple of weeks. I am starting to recapture a bit of what I lost in my transition, though I still have a ways to go.
So things are looking better and I'm still out there looking for that special girl. Things have been very quiet there and I am a bit lonely although I do have tons of friends. I am grateful for that as well as my very smooth recovery. My new anatomy just feels right. :)

My profile pic is what I look like now. I hope to pop in from time to time.
and i know that i'm never alone

Hi Melody :-*

Good to hear from you.

So was there an announcement? Minnie has left the park?

It worked out well that you got the SRS and had a job paying for it,  know it is time to move on. Sounds a pretty good plan.

Keep in touch Honey

Good job, Mel.

Good news on the move and the new job.

It does not take courage or bravery to change your gender.  It takes fear of living one more day in the wrong one.~me

Great to hear your recovery went well.

You are looking great. Lost more weight by the looks of things. Sorry to hear about the post op depression. Anything in particular trigger that, or was it simple post op blues?

I've been told to watch out for it. Still can't decide between Bowers and McGinn. Might have to visit them both before I decide.

Well keep up the great work kiddo. Just remember what you achieved in 16 months and 1 day, your future lover is just round the corner from you. You can do ANYTHING your heart desires. You've proved that already.

Keep in touch and don't be a stranger. I know life is different on the outside.

The depression was triggered by several things I think. Definitely post-op blues, but the job an living situation didn't help. Every day driving to work I felt like crying. Each shift seemed to last a lifetime. Coming home didn't seem like a sanctuary. It was fine, but reminded me too much of starting over. I hate living in apartments.

Bowers was my surgeon and I would rate her highly. Of course I've also heard good things about McGinn. Don't really think you can go wrong. My deciding factor was that Bowers took my insurance.

Melody,
Your experience with the depression is probably from both the surgery and the cessation of the HRT regimen for some time before the surgery that is recommended.  You look and sound well after all of that.

As everyone has already said, your picture is truly beautiful and everytime you update us it has been very inspiring for many of us late transitioners. Unfortunately, I'm not surprised that there is depression after post-op, it reminds me of professonal athletes post-retirement. So, much focus has been on getting to X or being X that once that part of life is over there is a need to reimagine life yet again which can be wonderful but also many are unprepared for that. The unfulfilling work situation would have been difficult enough but when adding in the post-op blues that is a lot for anyone. Nevertheless, your post shows us what great leaps you have made and how resilient you are.  It sounds like you have some really positive things in the air at the moment and I wouldn't be surprised that as your new life unfolds in a new happier direction that someone will come into your life.

Please keep us updated because you have really been a source of encouragement for many of us.
