A Queens man who admitted to stabbing a Good Samaritan to death was sentenced to 18 years in prison today.

Daryl Reid, 24, confessed to Queens Supreme Court Justice Richard Buchter in June that he and his co-defendants, Terril Pinnock and Jahvaughn Garrison, beat up 49-year-old Richard Salter for coming to the aide of a transgender woman who they were harassing.

"[Salter's] heroism should be recognized...he stood up against bigotry," said Justice Buchter before he imposed the lengthy sentence for Reid.

"Richard was a good guy and he died doing the right thing. It was very unfortunate," said Hamilton outside of court.

History, despite its wrenching pain, cannot be unlived, but if faced with courage, need not be lived again.

This man was beaten and murdered for stepping up to give aid to one of our sisters

Let him not be forgot for he is a true hero

Anyone who is able to contact and do something for his surviving family should do so.

Let Richard Salter's family know that we are aware and we do care
The main things to remember in life are Love, Kindness, Understanding and Respect - Always make forward progress

Superficial fanny kissing friends are a dime a dozen, a TRUE FRIEND however is PRICELESS
