Since the Hobbit season is truly upon us, I thought you might enjoy hearing how the 70's thought LOTR sounded. I grew up with this album, which was embedded in my psyche long before I actually got to read Tolkien's books. All hail Bo Hansson (and try to ignore the absurd selection of images that go with this yt offering).
