First transgender sports meet on Sept 8-9

RAIPUR, Chhattisgarh, Indiahttp://www.dailypioneer.com/component/content/article/409-news/88160-first-transgender-sports-meet-on-sept-8-9.htmlFor the first time in the country, a transgender national sports meet is going to be held in Chhattisgarh in an effort to ensure a platform for people of the third gender to move ahead in sports.
This initiative has been taken by the Mitwa Mahila Sankalp Samiti, a transgender welfare organisation, in association with Right Turn Welfare Society, a social organisation.
"The first ever "All India Third Gender Sports Meet", to be held on September 8 and 9, will draw participation of nearly 150 sportspersons from eight States," said Teja Singh Sahu, secretary of the Right Turn Welfare Society. He was speaking at a Press conference on Friday.
Spokesperson of Chhattisgarh Mitwa Sankalp Samiti Ravina said sportspersons from Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana, Bengal, Odisha, Gujarat and Delhi will take part. Laxmi Narayn Tripathi of "Bigg Boss" fame, popular face of the third gender community, will also grace the occasion.
The event will also see the prominent presence of Rudrani from Delhi (Mitra Trust), Silvester Merchant from Gujrat (National AIDS Control), Ernest fro United Nation Development Programme, Sita Devi (Kinnar Bharti), Abina (Alliance India, Delhi), Priya Babu (Tamil Nadu) and others.
