I hate how my grandparents are into the whole gender role thing. I am so afraid to come out because of that. I tried growing my hair out, but this has just caused a lot of nagging from my grandmother, and so I am getting my haircut just to get her to stop nagging.

Then I told my grandmother I wanted to shave my legs and she said "You are a boy, not a girl, you are not doing that." So, if she is getting upset at that because I wanna shave my legs I can imagine how well the convo will go when I tell her I wanna trade my boy parts for girl parts :P

Then about a month ago I told my mom about me having gender "issues" and she is in complete denial hasn't even tried to understand why I go through, and I feel it was a waste to tell her since it seems she doesn't even care.

This is a difficult time for you. Give yourself credit for holding up well under a lot of pressure.

Regarding your mother and grandparents, most people don't know very much about transgender. Unfortunately it ends up being up to us to educate them. That process is a long one and may take several tries. No one can predict whether they will ultimately accept who you are but it is worth at least a try explaining it to them.

And understand that people who love you owe it to you to know the real you.

Good luck Emily Mae.

It's a tough one.
If you are a cyclist you will be shaving your legs so that when you fall off the hair won't melt together and rip out chunks of flesh, is a good ploy.
If the worst comes to the worst you could let them know the suicide rate among those of us who suffer rejection and isolation.  That would at least let them know you are serious about transition, and asking for their help and understanding.
Hope it works out.

Karen.

Swimmers and body builders shave their legs and body hair.

Go for it!

Forgot about them. With swimmers it is drag, with body builders it is to show muscle definition.  which are all Manly Pursuits.

That's the point, K.  The poster can show shaving is not necessarily a feminine pursuit.

Well I tried to tell my grandparents that it was the cool thing to do, and they just said I am a guy I am not shaving my legs.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I got my hair cut :( it is super short and super stupid looking.

Hey there, so sorry for the lack of family support. Life gets better, just hang in there.

One thing I want to get out there for you to think about very very seriously is this: You sound quite young. If this is right, do some serious thinking and try to get into gender therapy asap. Why? Because almost a universal truth around these boards is we ALL share the same regret: Not taking action sooner. The younger you are, the more passable you might be with longer term hormone therapy (were you before puberty with understanding parents, as a few very lucky girls are, they never have to go thru male changes that are later very expensive and painful to eradicate....). So if you are sure, get on hormones WITH the help of a doctor. Every year you wait will be a year you regret waiting; ask any of us.

Be safe, be well, and good luck!
Blessings,

D
