I wouldn't.  I would just say that your birth name never felt right and was uncomfortable to you.  Your chosen name does.

Hi Justin,

They probably mostly want you to give a reason that is something other than for the purposes of committing fraud.  If that is all they are looking for, then how much personal information you give them is up to you.  I tend to be pretty cautious.  I should also say that the laws around name changes carry from state to state (I'm not sure if you are in the U.S.).  If you have serious questions about how to fill out the form, there might be a legal aid organization that can help you, or your local state bar might be able to refer you to someone who would be low-cost (again, idk if you are in the U.S.).

Congrats on your name change, it felt great to get mine done.

You can say that you are changing your name to match your gender.
It isn't the courts' business whether you are transgender, or just had parents who wanted to name their son Julia Annemarie. It happens.
You could also say 'personal preference' and leave it at that.
You could say that you are changing your legal name to match the name you (will) now go by.

Hi Justin,

Very probably the same form I filled out a few weeks ago. I said that I'm TG under  hormone, surgical and psychiatric therapy to transition to my female sex.  You have to give a 'reasonable' explanation, they will not take anything less than what they consider a valid reason. Because I don't like my name is rejected. They also reject in rote. The first letter says (eg) not a valid reason. You answer. Next letter says, no proof of residency, you answer, next letter is 'incorrect fee. etc. Then it is a minimum of 20 days when they can't find another excuse.

The people at BD&M were very pedantic and wanted everything totally clear. They asked for several months bank statements and/or Rate statements to prove I've been living in Adelaide for the last three months. Even though they had my driving licence, with my home address,  passport etc. So make sure you include everything and get everything signed off by a police person or a JP. They seemed pretty keen to find ways to not process it if at all possible.

And congrats on a big step!!

That means here are three of us in NT and SA  getting our name changed, as Kelly was getting hers as well.

Def have to have a party :icon_birthday: :icon_birthday: :icon_birthday:
