Former Miami City Commissioner Arthur E. Teele Jr. has been posthumously exonerated on charges of threatening police officers.

Garvin blamed the initial threat conviction for prompting Teele's downward spiral: ``I know how it affected him. I know how dejected he was when he lost his law license, when he lost his position as a commissioner for the city.''

Back in late 2005, Stephanie Teele cited unverified allegations of a jailed transvestite prostitute -- who said the city commissioner had been a client, and the media's eagerness to run with the story for pushing her husband to suicide.

Stephanie Teele could not be reached for comment Wednesday.
