UC Berkeley's healthcare plan covers up to $75,000 for students who would like to undergo a sex-change operation.

The University of California (UC) – Berkeley student healthcare plan includes coverage of up to $75,000 for students who wish to undergo a sex-change operation, a trove of documents obtained on Monday by Campus Reform reveals.

According to the 2012-13 UC Berkeley Student Health Insurance Plan Benefits Booklet, the public university will fund 90 percent of the controversial operation or up to $75,000.

The school will also fund "hormone therapy" and "gender confirmation (reassignment) surgery" as well as well as "certain travel costs" for the operation due to a "limited number of providers" in the area.

I just wrote the idiot at "The Blaze" who wrote the article the following:

Title: Do They Pay to Write Such Nonsense?

QuoteRe: Need $75,000 for a Sex-Change Operation? Enroll at UC Berkeley

Good luck to anyone trying to enroll at UC Berkeley in order to get a "sex-change
operation," which, by the way, does not exist in that vernacular anyway.

First of all, only top students bother applying to the best public university in the
world. For instance, the average GPA for transfer applicants is around 3.75 then
only 21% of those are admitted. Secondly, the yearly cost to attend is about $29,000
per year, $1700 for health care coverage.

Lastly, I am involved in various LGBT campus activities and I only know of two
transsexual students and both of them are "post-operative." (I am sure there are
more than two out of 30,000 but I do not know where they are hiding.)

"Funny, it doesn't mention sex-change operations."

I guess not. In my wildest dreams, I cannot imagine that there are more than a few
dozen students who could take advantage of this. Why would the University advertise
services that only a handful of students need? It's moronic. And again, they don't
call them sex-change operations as it is a misleading term. I won't bother to
explain because I doubt that you would be able to understand it.

As this article is misleading, you should print a correction.

This is written in a polemic writing style BTW.

It seems that the gist of The Blaze article was to question the expenditure of public monies on SRS and abortion procedures, and the University's unwillingness to discuss it.
