We will not be able to change Victoria's mind -- she has 'rights' to her certainty that
Quote from: Victoriathere have been more studies than I can count that have substantiated the inherent differences. No matter how some in our society would try, girls are girls and boys are boys.
there are many people such as Victoria. She's probably never met a trans person in person, and the 'more studies than I can count' was something she heard from a like minded person, probably at church. I doubt she has read any studies and, if I'm wrong about that, has read them in the way FundeVangelists read the Bible for ammunition to defend a position.
But, pretty much all of us here know that already.
What about those in society who are more open and moderate? Or those who are already supportive yet don't have the latest studies at their fingertips? They'll support and defend us, yet they lack the 'ammo', the knowledge to detect and refute the vacuous arguments of the strict-father-conservative right.
Were that to happen, then Victoria could exercise her rights to her certainty of belief -- and a lot fewer people would listen.
Education needs to happen. In other words, correct knowledge about what trans is and what it isn't needs to be 'shoved down their throats' (to use their words.) Even when they protest. Especially against their 'push-back'. This issue is a part of a larger
culture war in America. People such as Victoria will try to infect the moderates with their version of 'truth' -- and if the moderate and liberal portions of society are not inoculated against it it will take hold and delay our gaining equal rights, if not reverse any progress made thus far.
