I have been an athlete all my life and I was going to play sports in college but I decided to transition instead because I was so uncomfortable with myself. Now that I have had top surgery and my gender marker changed, and I've been on T for a little over a year, I'm interested in trying out for the Men's Basketball team at the community college I go to. I just don't know how to go about contacting the coach. Do I tell him about my situation or just act like I've always been a male physically? Any input on this would be very helpful. Thanks!

Act like you've always been male. If you make the team it shouldn't matter anyways and you don't want that to be a deciding factor with the coach because honestly you never know. And just think how awesome it would feel to make the men's team :) I played a year of womens basketball in college but quit after one year because I just couldn't get my shiz together and my psycho coach wasn't doing me any good. anyways, go for it bro. i've always wished i had the male body necessary to play on a mens team, with the right T levels and all. so dope.

If I were you, I definitely wouldnt tell them. Unless you feel there is some reason you would need to, Id just go for what you want to, confidently and try not to worry too much about what to say or hold back.
Youre not going to be forced to shower, I cant see them doing background checks just for a team, so I think you should be fine.

Good luck with trying out for the team! :)

if i were you i'd just go for it and not say anything. they might not even let you tryout if they knew about it but if you tryout and make the team and they find out AFTER what can they say?
"Yeah he was a great player and good enough to be on the team but.... we just dont like him because he's transgender" ? that's ridiculous.
so train hard, play hard, do your best and keep us updated :) good luck in your tryout dude!

I hope you do make the team kenton_07.  All men's high school and college basketball team dress and shower together. I have two brothers who played high school ball and they did.  I don't know how you will ever be able to pull off this part of being on the team.  It would certainly be near for you to make the team as a guy.

Think again.  College basketball teams dress out together and shower after the games.  Every single one.

you can always wear shower shorts. you might get teased a little, but hey, not everyone want to show their junk to other guys. took me forever to get the nerve to shower with my women's team in college. most times i would skip it or wait for everyone to be done before having a quick one. so the shower issue is avoidable.

thanks everyone! you all inspired me and gave me the confidence to send an email to the guy in charge of the program at the community college I go to. Hopefully his response will contain some good news!
