I have been reading some very depressing news of trans deaths throughout and i want to know how bad are things in the USA, is it a very common thing for trans girls to get murdered? I'm moving to San Francisco next month and i am very worried, please help!!!

Many of those deaths came about due to people putting themselves in risky situations very late at night.  A big thing is to think about the risk of going certain places, what times you should go and stuff like that.  I live in a pretty redneck area of north carolina but I feel safe as I don't put myself in certain situations and I avoid the clubs where many military guys tend to go.

Although I do believe some areas of the U.S. are less receptive than others, I think you'll generally be fine on the West Coast (Washington, Oregon, California). San Francisco (as well as Seattle) is one of the most pro-lgbt cities in the US (I'm fortunate to live in the vicinity of Seattle, myself). You'll definitely be fine in San Francisco. I've never felt unsafe when I visit.

And many of those are on the East Coast, primarily Washington DC.

San Francisco, Portland and Seattle are great cities for Transpeople

Outside of bad choices in partners - which is how most trans persons are killed - there is not much gay/trans bashing in SF or the Bay Area.  On the other hand, it's a big city, with all the problems that come with big American cities, gangs, crime and lots of guns.  It's possible to get just as dead for lots of reasons, none of them have to do with being trans per se.

Many of the homicides take place in the prostitution line of "work"

Well there are lots of bad areas/towns and neighborhoods that will increase your odds substantially.

I know i may sound stupid but i'm worried, can you tell me what are some of the bad areas/towns and what do you mean by bad "partner"?

Hunters Point/Crocker-Amazon in SF, West Oakland and the International Ave area, pretty much anywhere in Richmond, the gang areas of San Leandro/San Lorenzo.  The Tenderloin in SF is not exactly safe, but the murder rate is lower than in Hunters Point.

There are lots of tools like this one.

I am not a fan of "blaming the victim". Nevertheless, from the news accounts, if they are to be believed (yes conspiracy theorist  :P ) many of the reported deaths are directly related to lifestyle choices. Be it bad choice of partners (very often) or prostitution (very often). Related factors like drugs or being in the wrong place at the right time, can directly be attributed simply to being trans. Like who doesn't want to escape and many do live in the margins of society just scraping by. Of course there are the sensational stories which often is a result of plain stupidity, ie: T girl goes to red-neck or biker bar and......

Also bear in mind the USA has MANY large metropolitan areas as well as a few megalopolises. (I spent 95% of my life just across the river from NYC. Solid concrete cites for about 20 miles around. Rural is some 90+ miles away! in about every direction) As the movie said "There are 8 million stories in the naked city...". Bottom line, bad things happen to people across the entire socio-economic spectrum. There are plenty of stories to tell with so many people around.

How is Inner Sunset? i know it's close to Richmond. It's hard to find it on that map.

It sounds a bit like the supposed racist attacks on Indians in Melbourne a couple of years ago.

A fair number were by youth gangs that had members from the Sub-continent and the Horn of Africa, in a few poorer suburbs, and on lone males walking in areas where anyone should be wary.  Especially when openly carrying a laptop or mobile phone. ::)

I was referring to Richmond the town, not Richmond the SF neighborhood - sorry I didn't make that clear, my bad.  I'm aware that sometimes when people say they are moving to SF they mean the Bay Area and not SF specifically, so I should have been clearer, my bad, sorry.  Inner (and Outer) Sunset are very nice, safe, we used to joke that you never get to see the sunset there because of the fog, but Inner Sunset was my second favorite neighborhood to live in in The City.
