From the little I heard I would say you sound male, but I think I would have liked to hear more.

I'm not really sure if my voice is in the passable range or not. I've been practicing for about 4 months of so, I know there is probably something I can do to improve my voice, but I'm sort of at a loss as to what to do. Hopefully someone can give me some pointers.

Untrained voice (Male Voice):

Trained voice (Attempted Female Voice):

I just listened to the trained voice, and I would say you pass, but if you want it to sound more natural and less forced, try taking a deep breath before speaking (it might help, not sure). I know I have a problem with keeping a minimal amount of breath in my lungs, so my voice usually sounds strained.

Hey everyone, I hope I'm not on the wrong part of the forum from what I have seen and heard before. Erm, I'm pre T but I have been trying to lower my range with both talking and singing. I think I have been able to pretty well, somewhat. But, I wanted to see if anyone else had perhaps some tips? Or perhaps if anyone is up for listening and telling me how they hear my voice?

In the first one, I would gender it as that of a girl or woman. However, your singing voice definitely sounds like a guy singing and it sounds quite nice!

Hello everyone. So I'm finding this is pretty hard for me, like my voice still cracks when I try going higher, but I figured I could ask here without my usual fears of judgement:

Still pre-T but I don't sound too girly, right?

Definitely not girly, but you sound like a young boy (like early puberty or pre-puberty).

Dang o.o For pre-T, you are doing quite well! There are a few moments in there where it started to sound more like a woman, but for the most part, you sound like a typical teenage boy.

I was very scared but here is the first video I made for my youtube channel LOL I wanted some feedback on my voice (I never putted anything here and I'm very self-conscious about my voice)

Here are 2 samples, both are very similar. I was told one sounds much higher and I shouldnt use it, but I thought it sounded better. So here are both, I could really use some feedback because I just don't know what to work on right now, just that it isn't good.

I would recommend increasing the volume or speak louder next time. I can barely hear even when I turn it up a lot. You sound ok though, the little that I heard but it's difficult to tell due to the volume being so low.

I can't hear you well in this video, but what I did hear sounded passable to me. You also look great in the video. Just turn up the volume and you should be fine.

Your voice actually sounds quite good, in my opinion.   :)   I do agree with your self-assessment regarding prosody - you still have a somewhat masculine cadence that undermines things (a little).  There's not really a quick fix for this problem that I'm aware of, although Kathe Perez has a few pointers in her Crash Course videos.  I think it really is a matter of trial and error, with hopefully a series of tiny breakthroughs that add up over time.

One other comment - your voice has a tendency to briefly "crack" into your lower register.  One thing that has helped me to work on this is by analyzing my voice in Praat.  The pitch spectrogram tends to have a lot of spikes in it - you want to eliminate the ones that go downward.  This is satisfying for me in the sense that it's nice and objective, plus you can hear the results as well.

Whoa whoa whoa
What do you take us for?
Whoa whoa whoa
What do you take us for?

I'm a phenomenon
And I gotta bring pain in The Octagon
When I wanna spit game at a soccer mom
I get it quicker than the left lane in the Autobahn (fast!)
Like Ramadan and I battle young padawans all the damn day
I'm getting naked and I'm hopping on a wrecking ball
So hot I got the <removed> a la flambé
I go to Miley's house, I see that Miley's home
I play Miley's ribcage with my <removed>, like it's a Xylie-phone
Yes, that was highly >-bleeped-<ed up, but my skills are highly honed
And if I was highly hyphy, I might be more widely-known
C'est la vie, better pay my fee
They kick it in Seattle in a Patagonia jacket
They get it in the Bay in a plain white tee
Hey mami! You a P.Y.T (P.Y.T)
You wanna see me speak, then I go, go, go, go, go
Every time I get a beat, I know I gotta beat it up
I bend it, then I break it, then I chop it, then I eat it up
And PETA would never approve of the way I've been treating the music
I bleed it, I bruise it, I kick it to the curb
And then I'm sipping on my bourbon, I be freaking it doing it, keeping it moving
I'm picking apart the muscle when I'm thinking about the hustle
But I'm nice (nice!)

Whoa whoa whoa
What do you take us for?
Whoa whoa whoa
What do you take us for?

I jump the freeway median, I'm savage
Cause my mode is that I'm meaner than the average
Like my teacher taught me, when I heard the crowd applaud
I thought I was an atheist until I realized I'm a God!
It could hurt a bit when I murder >-bleeped-<
In a moment I'll be tying off a tourniquet
When I burn them and I hit them in the sternum
I don't even got to enter, but I'm gonna win the tournament
That's what I'm all about
I do what I got to do and never gonna pout
And I hope that it would have been the end of it and I'm out
But they never tend to give me the benefit of the doubt
Ever since I was a little kid
I know that I've been looking for the hot, hot spotlight
And if you really wonder what I think about the competition
They were not-not-not tight
I've been reading my scripture
Every photo bomber wanna be in my picture
And you better bet I'm living every single day
like it's the <removed> Catalina Wine Mixer
Bada bing, bada boom!
When I walk in, I'm the king of the room
And I get it locked in, like the king in a tomb
When I spit a toxin and they cough on the fumes
Cause I'm back in the nick of time
And I'm attacking the fickle mind
I'm a jackal, I'll rip his hide
I'ma tackle him, pick a fight
I be Dracula set to bite
In the black of the bitter night and I'm out! (poof)

Okay, so I have been passing with this voice, but I still don't like it too much. Any tips or pointers could be helpful.

Also, I am not holding the S, I recorded this on my phone and for some reason the file sounds like that, it sounds just fine on my iPhone. I am not sure what is going on there.

Your voice sounds pretty close to me. Still, something about it still seemed a bit androgynous/male-in-a-high-register to me. Can you deepen it slightly without going back to your male resonance? I'm thinking specifically of candiFLA's voice tips in her YouTube channel (not sure if you've seen these already), whereby she would start at her former male voice, go up to falsetto, then begin "softening" her voice by applying some pressure to her voicebox with her muscles, and from there she would "soften" it until she slips into a recognisably female register. After finding that register, she would begin lowering her voice again, adding some bass back into it. But because she is still within a female register, it comes off as a passable female voice.

In case you haven't seen her videos, this is a link to one of her many uploads specifically about finding one's female voice, in which she goes between her very different male and female voices: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qbaj4tIX1kw&list=UUIUQw0IUKOQYavxmUThdVFQ

I hope that helps a bit. I think you're close already. There's a lot of variation in female voices. And because you already definitely pass as far as how you look, even if you don't think your voice is completely there yet, I think people will still lean towards correctly gendering you.

Hi I was just hoping to get some input on my voice ;) I dont practice it much but I have on and off, Ive just been going out a lot and doing the best I can... I do OK with it in person I guess, not so great on the phone though... I KNOW it could be better so any honest input would be great, thanks :)

Does this sound masculine? I have always tightned my larynx to speak subconsciously and I'm stuck with a child voice, so now I'm trying to sound more relaxed. Does it sound okay?

Well, I decided to try to do a cover I have always wanted to try while trying to sound as low and masculine as possible. Though, I think once I have started and have been on T for a while I will redo the cover but I wanted to ask what everyone here thinks.

Hi Antonia, the pitch of your voice sounds good, but it sounds a little pinched; I would suggest trying to relax your vocal chords a little. :)
