droopy upper eyelid

A question about how to "work around" a difficult issue....

I have been wanting to try eyeliner (not going outside yet, just playing), but both my upper eyelids kind of droop onto my eyelashes, especially at the outside 1/3 of the eye. The lids don't cover the eye itself, but does completely obscure the part of the eyelash area that would normally get the liner.

I realize this is probably *cough* old age *cough*, but short of getting plastic surgery, are there any techniques I could use to have eyeliner visible?

(If I lift my eyebrows just a smidge, like maybe 1/16th inch, the liner area is visible; but the lids drop once I let go of the brow)

Thanks for any help!

Sorry I don't want to offend. :embarrassed:

I did read that there were some non-surgical eye lift techniques, it might be worth a Google.

QuoteIs it a weight issue

Well...I am a little...heavy. My new years' resolution is to lose 60 lbs, which puts me right in the middle of various "ideal" weights for my height.

I'd think that as I lost weight, my lids (and face, and tummy, and and and...) would tighten up a bit, but in the meantime...do I just forget about eyeliner, and use eyeshadow?

You have a hooded eye.
That's completely normal and it's not related to being overweight.

Some people are born with hooded eyes or you get them once your skin becomes more mature.

If you REALLY want to learn how to work with makeup for your skin type then I suggest watching this makeup guru on youtube, he does plenty of tutorials on this one model/friend for mature women.

Ugg! I hate it...it reminds me of a foreskin. (Odd thing is, I'm "cut" but resent that fact...) I haven't seen anyone who has droopy eyelids that make them more attractive, if anything it adds years to their face. :embarrassed:

Ok, if the weight loss doesn't help, I'm looking into a nip-n-tuck.

Thanks for the link, will be watching it.

I have hooded eyes as well, and really hate them.

Thanks, Mom!  As she aged they got so bad it started to occlude her vision and she had surgery to correct it.  I've worn contact lenses forever, and perhaps the daily pull on the eyelid to remove them contributed to the issue...

The only non-surgical "solution" I've seen uses double-stick tape in the fold.  Doesn't sound to comfortable, but I haven't tried them so don't know.  Search on "eyelid tape for hooded eyes" or "EyeMagic" for some products you can try, in addition to makeup tricks.

I'm 24 and I have droopy eyes, I just skip the eyeliner most of the time and if I do happen to wear it I will usually wing it out or put it one quite thick or dramatically so when you blink it still might be visible. You can also use a bright shimmery liner or a sparkly liner to help bring it out when you move your eyes.

Hmm. Actually, I find this very interesting. I sort of have this issue a little bit where I didn't before. It doesn't cover the eyeliner area (not that I wear it) or anything but it does look a lot different than it did. I was thinking it was the face changing on T. I'm not really old enough for it to be age (especially since I have fewer signs of age than people I know a decade younger). I have put on a good deal of weight though. Never heard of this before, but the rest of my face is... puffy. Why not the eye area?

I've wondered about this too. Especially since I'm pretty brutal with rubbing my eyes.

Anyway, there are many women born with hooded lids, and they find ways to work around it. Paris Hilton and Blake Lively *who is very hot* both do.

Here's the Eye Magic site with makeup tips Ani mentioned.

The eyelid thing is a common trait among many of women considered the most beautiful. My fav is Catherine Zeta-Jones. Consider it an asset and, as a bonus, you don't have to worry as much about eyelid makeup. Let's face it-- makeup is a hassle, anyway.

You'd do yourself a favor if if you don't loose too much weight this year. People who loose a lot of weight in a shorter time are dooming themselves to fighting to keep their weight down from then on. If you loose smaller increments over a much longer time your body's chemistry adjusts and it's easy to keep weight down without heavy exercise and calorie watching. Check the article & podcast below. I've  listened to Monica's podcast for years and she's very sharp on these things:
