Legislation to bar discrimination based on sexuality the workplace was introduced in Congress Tuesday afternoon.

The Employment Non-Discrimination Act would make it illegal to fire, refuse to hire or refuse to promote an employee based on the person's sexual orientation or gender identity.

The bill was filed in the House by Reps. Barney Frank (D-Mass.), Deborah Pryce (R-Ohio) Tammy Baldwin (D-Wis.) and Chris Shays (R-Conn.)

I'm wondering if there's something we can do about this?

Mailing campaigns... something... to make people aware and help it gain momentum?

Call, write, email, and fax your reps.

yes, all of the above and then recruit others to do the same. Do this even if your rep probably will not vote for it because then at least you can say that you tried.

QuoteA number of states have varying degrees of protections for LGBT workers.  Still it legal to fire someone based on his or her sexual orientation in 33 states, and in 42 states, it is still legal to fire someone for being transgender.

We're protected in only EIGHT states?

By law anyway Karen.  I've experienced severe discrimination even here in California where it is supposedly illegal.

But aren'tchya glad ya live here in the land of milk and honey?
